No one should be saying this is a bad deal. If you want to argue, it should be over whether this was a great deal or an amazing deal.

Afflalo has been steadily regressing over the last few years. Magic, Denver, and
Blazer fans have complained that he's not really a team offensive player and his defense isn't as good as it used to be.

With that said, even if he turned about to be average, he's got a cheap, movable contract. If he returns back to being a better player, all the better.

Great deal.

Looks like a dude that's peaked a few years back and now in the declining phrase. He's also never been a good team offensive player.

Afflalo currently is at the same level as a player as current Joe Johnson.
My lifetime better have a Knicks championship.

Cheaper than Monta Ellis. Doesn't clog up the cap for long. Good value.

If he loved our situation, he would have signed with us. He's either waiting on Aldridge and Jordan to sign and see who his options are, or he's trying to drag teams into a bidding war to drive his price up. Either way, I don't think he comes here. He was in a losing situation for 5 years. That can get to you after a while and I'm not sure he wants to endure more of that.

Everyone is offering max. Some guys just want to hear everyone out (aka LMA with hearing us out, when he is for sure Spurs bound imo). He has more of a chance of winning with Melo than at the Lakers/Bucks imo. No elite team is after him if the Spurs get LMA.

Our situation is not much better than the Lakers. I'd say we are similar. The Bucks have some good young talent, a good coach in Kidd, a playoff team and a less pressurized situation in Milwaukee. They are in better shape than we are.

If the Blazers lose Aldridge and Lopez, I'd expect them to be players for Monroe as well, so I wouldn't count them out either.

You were right on the Bucks. Didn't think it was the best move for him, but that doesn't matter.

Considering how the market has been playing out, love this deal. Obviously you hope that Afflalo just had a down year, let him use us to up that value.

This was a good deal. Sadly though it may be our marquee signing for the offseason. None of us envisioned that when we were doing the tank-a-thon cheers in February.

You can't argue that this is a bad deal from all angles.

We got a guy who is a very similar age and skill level to a healthy Wesley Mattews for half the price of an injured Wesley Matthews. That's not bad at all.

Not high on him but a fair deal so I am happy.

BAd deal in the stand point we overpaid. Affalo is a nice player when you have a team. He cannot get open. This is a near disaster in NY imo.

I wonder if this was done to appease Melo.

So far RObin lopez and Affalo...hummmmm....This looks terrible. Lopez will be smoked in NY without any help on D....it's him and Gallo and the rest are extraordinarily bad on defense.

They are not going to be to win anything this year but what they can do is play real well and show someone like Durant that they actually are ready to take the next step. They need to add another premium level player, not more role players. And the 2 "premium like" guys that they have a realistic shot at are Monroe and Harris.

Agreed.

The future of this team depends on luring Kevin Durant, otherwise it's tear down time.

It looks like Harris is becoming the best player we could land this year :-?

What a great deal. Phil went against his better judgment and caved into the melo deal but not anymore. No monroe at the max, no Shumpert for 40mil  Phil will not do as the dummies as doing. Shrewed, efficient. Now this is how you manage a team.

Super cheap for a guy like Afflalo, I watched him quite a lot back in Denver days when Melo was there, he was a solid SG though I don't really like him much defensively but at 8m per is such a steal, much better than Shump.

Afflalo's contract by my calculations (4.5% raise for the 2nd year)

2015-2016: $7,823,960.88
2016-2017: $8,176,039.12
TOTAL: $16,000,000.00
