Carmelo's defense has been ridiculously good so far

Players are shooting 30.3% against him this season which is -14.4% off their normal shooting percentage.

The myth that he plays no defense has been put to rest. once his offense gets back on track, he'll be one of the most dominant players ON BOTH ENDS of the court.

Edit: in comparison to Lebron

He's playing better defense than Lebron so far.

I'm guessing Melo exerting himself on the defensive end has some correlation with his offensive struggles

Nice to see the stats back up what many, including myself, have noticed since preseason. He's just trying harder on defense this season - IMO, the hardest he's tried his entire career. Still needs some work on off ball, as he tends to ball watch a little bit too much, but he's been awesome defensively. No complaints from me.

You can tell he's trying not to exert himself for particular stretches of the game, particularly in the first quarter. He's looking to pass and set up teammates.

Honestly surprised at these results...he's definitely giving effort but he doesn't seem dominant on the defensive end... these are very good number tho.

Something similar was said by Melo 2 seasons ago when nobody was scoring on the team. He then scored 62 points against the Bobcats then said that "it was something needed to do and hopefully his teamates would follow his lead." Sorry can't find that source. :D

It's a glaring remainder that Melo doesn't lead by talking or by cheering you up when you do dumb ****. He'll do it on court. But the problem is, sometimes the teamates get caught watching and the message is washed away by cheers and hand claps.

This is good stuff. And it really is the difference between being 7-6 and 3-10, because we've competed on defense and if Melo were not engaged on D we wouldn't be good enough to win many of our games.

I don't want to sacrifice his 4th quarter stamina, so I'm still hoping his minutes average closer to 30 minutes if we can build our rotation so it delivers while Melo is sitting. He's around 35 minutes a game this season. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he needs to play a little less to stay in one piece.

the biggest myth in the NBA is Melo being a bad defender. He's never been bad. Just never been elite. His post defense is good, pick and roll defense inconsistent.

We need this. If Melo can show himself to be a good defender, it'll make our team look extremely attractive to potential FAs. I feel like half the reason they team up is to lessen the load on each other on the offensive end.
