Knicks were close to acquiring Alessandro Gentile on draft night?

Alessandro Gentile’s rights were close to being traded to the Knicks before the NBA draft, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports

I'm just gonna call Phil lasagna from now on...
Maybe they offered Houston 3mil cash for his rights
Wonder what kind of contract a guy like this would want

may have changed in 2 years, but i doubt it. sounds like knicks are better off missing out on him. **** defender. poor attitude. not athletic. only a scorer. not what i want for this team. maybe as a prospect and change two of the most important aspects of a basketball player: defense and attitude

I got some of that from the DX writeup, but not all of it. I agree that it's clear he has some deep flaws, but this part made it blatantly obvious why they'd take a chance on the guy for a relatively cheap price:

More than just a shooter, Gentile is an extremely creative, instinctive offensive player on the whole. He may lack quickness, but has developed into a crafty ball-handler over the last few seasons, is capable of setting the table for his teammates thanks to his terrific feel for the game, and is an opportunistic finisher inside. Able to use his strength effectively when attacking the basket, the Italian swingman is constantly in attack mode, but is a more unselfish distributor now than he was in his youth.
