What kind of moves do you think the Knicks are still going to make? It is unlikely anything significant happens which would alter the grade, besides a couple spots the roster is mostly set. Those 1 or 2 guys won't really move the grade so much.

I am giving a B. An A would be a perfect offseason and I am not sure about the bench. I consider there to be too many unknowns and considering the injury history of the starters you would like more stability and sure things on the bench.

I would love for one of those guys to be found gold, I guess that is what we are going for. Roll the dice on some high risk, high reward guys. Certainly makes it more interesting and I am excited to see the results. 8-)

This is Phil's best off season by far. It's a relative roll of the dice but not a huge one. If Rambis had been I'd call it a disaster because short term contracts on a triangle team is disaster but with a new and faster style (ghost of Fisher) maybe we get better individual opportunities.

I think a B or B+ is fair. Too many questions right now though to give him an A.

I would have to give Phil a C+. His plan B was a very good and he built the best team he could have. Giving 2 guys over 30, 4 year contacts can be huge risks. I hope Noah doesn't look like Amare or how ARod looks at the end of a long term deal.

Straight B for me. He put together a cohesive team that could make noise if it hits all variables, but it's an older team with injury worries. He kept major assets in toe and I believe he shouldn't have trouble manufacturing max space next offseason. That said, I really preferred a slow and steady movement toward some younger cats that'd be here 5 years down the line with KP. I'm excited about this team though, a lot of personalities I like and I think the real measure of this offseason will be whether he brings in a major FA next offseason (which I think depends on our success this season).

I was lingering between an A and a B, but all things considered, we improved dramatically and did it all without giving up a single pick. Hell, we gained a pick. I still remember when I heard about the Rose trade and recoiling at how many picks we were about to lose. Phil, you did a hell of a job this offseason. I haven't been this excited for a season since we signed Houston, LJ and Childs.

Didn't trade any picks (actually got a 2nd)
Resigned Lance Thomas to a cheap, team friendly contract
Added young talent to fill out the roster
Got a coach who isn't a rookie and has a solid track record
Made New York a FA destination for next year
And in typical Knicks fashion got big name players to drive up hype for the season and raise ticket prices (Dolan must be loving this)

What more can you ask for in a GM? I honestly thought this offseason we were just going to strike out on Durant and then overpay to sign someone like Kent Bazemore. This is a lot more exciting.

A for me

All that you wrote may be true, but he didn't find an upgrade at the 4.

Why?

Excellent cap manipulation to bring in depth, balance, and maintain future cap flexibility and pick reserves.

I mean NONE of you saw this kind of offseason coming back in April for us. ;)

Yeah. I feel like the people giving this off season a B are the same ones who call some stunningly hot model on the internet a 7 or 8 because her hair is somewhat wrong. :D

They also turn around and kiss up to their asses in person after bad mouthing them.

Phil gets a solid B from me.

He took some calculated risks, that I'm 100% sure the staff did their due diligence on.

If they pan out, he could be exec of the year. If they don't, well, he sacked up, stepped to the line, and took his shot. Not a stupid hail mary fade away with 5 defenders kind of shot either, a good, high percentage FT shot.

He's been good so far. I'm interested to see what kind of moves he'll have as the year goes on. I feel the roster is still missing a few pieces for elite contention.

Melo gave a high grade

Carmelo Anthony, speaking to reporters in Las Vegas, endorses the Knicks putting together a team that's built to win now: "For me, the time is now. For us as a city, as an organization, that should be the mindset." He said "thank you" to Phil Jackson for acquiring veterans like Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Brandon Jennings. He believes the Knicks have a team that is "special" on paper and one that can compete in the Eastern Conference. (Via Marc Spears of The Undefeated)

It's a B for now. if Rose and Noah stay healthy and play well then it's closer to an A.

If your looking at it that way then it's really

Rose, Noah, Holiday, 2nd rounder
For
Rondo, Lopez, Grant, Calderon

And I think that's a win. In all likelihood I think we would've taken a chance on Rondo if Derrick didn't come here. Then we got Derrick and the Bulls got rondo.

Just curious. Is Grants realistic worth about a second round pick?

Oh and btw didn't know where to put this but saw that the 4th year of Lances contract is non-guarantee, and only guaranteed for 1mil until January making him a very interesting trade chip come 2020

Say we didn't trade for rose..

Jennings, ------, ------, Kuz, Lance, Willy

That Blanks represent 17 and 11 mill who we getting for 28 mill?

Derozan Conely batum are names thrown around all season and they take pretty much all of that.. I think 8 million left over if batum was our guy.. but not one of those guys switched teams..

Based on the deals handed out for players that actually switched teams (minus durant) I wonder what our realgm execs would do?

To answer the post B above average moves with potential to be really good (Copland and Prignoni type production from kuz and willy)

What Phil did was out of left field. But he took gambles unlike the GMs that we've had in the past. He kept us flexible for the future while keeping us competitive in the present, as long as we're healthy. I've always wanted Noah in a Knicks jersey and he made it happen. I knew we weren't gonna get Durant so I wasn't hoping on that. So to me, this offseason exceeded my expectations.

The only knock I have on Phil was that he couldn't find a way in to the 2nd round of the draft where we could've gambled on some good talent. But I can't really dwell on that since there probably weren't deals available.

Great off season from phil. Knicks are in great position for coming year and going forward. Phil gets an A. Only issue is not buying a 2nd round pick where Phil could have gotten cheap young talent for the future.
