According to SAS Knicks should lock Melo up in safe room after the season ends so he could maintain his legs?

or is Melo gonna be playing 40mpg during olympics?

And btw why is this clown SAS still mentioned here, when he has nothing but his twisted biased bs to share.

As for the OP, I don't see why not? If he's healthy, it'll only help us - IIRC, every time he goes to the Olympics, the season after it he comes back in awesome shape and firing on all cylinders. We need that.

Plus, he'll probably only play ~20 minutes a night anyway.

I agree with all of that, and would only like to add that if Melo takes pride in playing for his country and wishes to do so who is really empowered to tell him he is wrong? Sure teams can ask that players not play but these opportunities only come along so often and the Olympics are clearly important to Melo.

I say let him do his thing.

I voted no, but honestly couldn't care less.

Now KP on the other hand. Thank freaking goodness he isn't playing.

He's not gonna be playing 30 minutes a night, he'll get plenty of rest. He's just getting to represent his country, practice with elite company and get into better shape in the offseason. For a typically slow starter, some of Melo's best seasons have come after an Olympic or FIBA offseason. So yes, Melo should be playing in the Olympics and SAS is just trying to get more clicks with his typically screaming act.

In 2012/2013 he was better than in 20112012. But in 2008/2009 he was definitely worse than 2007/2008.

season wise sure i guess but from a playoffs perspective ur definitely wrong. he led his team to the WCF in 09 and here's his numbers comparing from 08 to 09

08
.364 .250 .828 9.5 2.0 .5 .3 22.5

09
.453 .364 .826 5.8 4.1 1.8 .6 27.2

olympics helps build that winning mindset. prepares you better for playoffs.

Manu Ginobli has been playing in the Olympics and World Games for years and years. Luis Scola and Manu play for the pride of their country and that is what Melo is doing. The guys is being accountable and showing commitment. I do not like Stephen A Smith and think he is worst NBA analyst on ESPN. When has the last time has he predicted who the NBA Champion will be?

and apply his skills most effectively... and come home with that winning mentality and killer instinct. i think this is a recipe for disaster (for our opponents).

they (should be) scared now!

melo -- BULLY
tingis pingis -- BULLY
smokin' jo -- BULLY
d-rose -- BULLY

i think win/lose/draw this team is going to go HAM on fools. if nothing else, the foundation of the culture and identity is here. we have an exciting coach. we're not upside down on the cap. we have all of our picks, and some extra.

the franchise is in a good place right now. set up to succeed.
RIP magnumt

welcome home, thibs.

I'm pretty sure adding Chauncey Billups had more to do with Denver getting to the WCF than Melo playing in the Olympics

Chauncey was top 6 in MVP voting that year. Melo wasn't even top 12.

It's Uncle or big cousin Mel to most of those guys I would guess. Maybe even Big Bro to some. He's got a step son tho, he might even be man of the house one of these days

The players obviously recognize his story in some way I think.

Paul George acknowledged he needs to be the Indiana Pacers' leader as they continue to evolve their roster and playing style.

“I think I’m still young,” George said before his practice with the U.S. men’s Olympic team. “I can carry a team, I feel.”

The Pacers have been aggressive this offseason, acquiring Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young and Al Jefferson.

“I’m glad he’s not letting me waste years,” he said of Bird. “I think Larry (Bird) and (the rest of the front office) have expressed how bad they want to get back to (the Eastern Conference finals) by these moves this offseason. I’m looking forward to getting us back there. He’s putting talent around me to help me get to what we all want to get accomplish, and that’s a championship.”

George is ready for the next challenge in his career.

“I’ve been molded all the way up to this point with having great veterans and great guys around me,” he said. “Now, it’s my solo opportunity of really being the leader and really being the locker room voice. I’m really looking forward to it; this is my chance and I’m going to make the heck out of it.

“Like I always say, it’s on me now.”

Melo has had knee issues in the past that caused him to miss a lot of games. If Melo miss significant time during next season because of a knee problem, then I would like to come back and vote in this thread. Melo is not a spring chicken anymore, and that's all I have to say about that. 8-)

On another note, one thing to keep in mind is that Paul George is a FA the year Melo expires, he could be someone to pair KP with, for all those people worried about building around him post-Melo.

Kinda late to be discussing it at this point. He's playing. The only thing to worry with melo playing in the Olympics is there is a good chance it'll affect him deep in the playoffs. It's been shown to have an effect.

Melo is awesome! We are going to beast this year! He is busting up Zhou Qi who has the same dimensions as Porzingis (7'3 with 7'7 wingspan):
