Melo has value to Cavs in trying to persuade Lebron to stay. It comes down to what they believe Lebron will do. If they think Lebron is staying then why wouldnt they trade for Melo and guy that would be upgrades and have and immediate impact. If they want assests for the future they can trade him to any team willing to give them young prospects and picks. They can trade Kyrie anywhere they feel since he doesnt have a NTC. It comes down to what direction they want to go.

BTW, if he is planning to leave, dont you think he would tell his boy? In that case why would Melo waive his NTC for Clevland and having to force himself to opt out of his last year and lose a ton of money?

Personally I don't see why we would even need to give up Much to get Kyrie when we have leverage. He supposedly wants to come here and we have Melo. We are the best partners to trade with if the Cavs would like to make one more run. I don't even see why we would even be giving up a first round pick and if have to, it must be lottery protected.

I don't think people understand that if we trade a first round pick that has some sort of protection it can still turn into a number 1 overall pick in the draft. The protection on any pick is limited to a number of years so that the trading team can get their compensation back. The sixers have the lakers 2015 protected first round pick. They havent been able to draft for the lakers over the last two years beacuse their pick fell within the protection area. This year the protection on that pick is removed and the sixers will pick for the lakers even if they receive the #1 pick.

You never want to put yourself in that position. You could be giving up your opportunity to draft the next Lebron James and giving him to a rival team because you thought the pick would be protected. Never trade first round picks unless its for a top 5 player or the last piece to winning a title for your team. This trade does not fall into either category. So if you want to trade players fine but not picks.

I think the Knicks are going to be terrible once melo is gone. They are mediocre now but for those that think the knicks will be ok so its fine to trade first round picks. The knicks are likely not to make the playoffs over the next couple of years. All you have to do is be in the lottery to have a shot. So falling just outside the 8th seed still gives an opportunity for #1. The Orlando Magic in 1992 had the 11th worst record and a 1.5 percent chance at number 1. They won it and completed a trade for penny hardaway after drafting Chris Webber. Don't put any first rounders in your trade you will regret it for a decade or more. Please learn from the past to improve your future.

The Cavs have no interest in rebuilding, so shipping them draft picks or young guys doesn't really make any sense. They definitely have a need for Melo, Lee (who's on a friendly contract,) and LT could be a good backup 3-4 for them.

As far as the Cavs receiving other talent (i.e. Bledsoe from Phoenix,) that might require a top 10 protected pick going to Phoenix in 2019 and a potential pickswap in 2020. I think that should be more than enough.

No way should this team give up on Frank or WIlly. They're on ridiculously cheap contracts and Willy has already outplayed his contract by at least quadruple its amount. We also control the rights to both players for many years to come.

Anyone who thinks we can get Kyrie without giving up an unprotected 1st dosent understand you have to give up something valuable in order to receive something of value. We don't have great young talent outside of KP so your choice is either trading KP along with Melo or pick(s). Melo plus garbage isn't going to get it done. In this case if you can trade Melo with Willy and and a first you do it. But there's no way you trade more than 1 draft pick. If there's two picks then at least one needs to be heavily protected.

Can we still use Rose in a S&T?
Those last 70 seconds, Randle in a nut shell.

Awful 2 for 1 3PT attempt when we are up 2
Doesn’t close out on Sabonis --> open 3
Takes another side step off balance 3

We got sucked into the Randle vortex where all good feelings go to die.

Pretty sure when you renounced his rights, you cannot S&T because you do not have the cap space.

Hmmm. Butler got traded for a pick swap + scrub + injured player.
