Cortes with over 30 pitches has Yankees down 3-0 already.

2 innings at bat for the Yankees, 2 inning ending double plays.

Fun fact with Joe Girardi in the booth, his last game as a Yankee was in this very ballpark as a manager in Game 7 of the 2017 ALCS.

Already off to a great start, shocking not. Getting pummeled against the Astros once again.

Yes it’s ridiculously early but this team hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt. The **** Royals and Nationals have won a World Series more recently then the Yankees.

Soto with his first RBI as a Yankee. Judge up with bases loaded and no outs.

This ump's strike zone is fluctuating and shaped Judge and Stanton's at bats.

Rizzo paid for that RBI.

Nice, Volpe! RBI walk to cut the deficit to 1.

Yankees leave the bases loaded again, but Verdugo swings at a strike, just grounded it to first. Probably should've told him to take on 3-1 as Martinez was having trouble finding the plate against him and Volpe.

Don't forget all those years where he didn't spend as much as he could, while giving the fans a promise that he would spend later...whoops, guess that didn't happen. Also remember how he didn't want to pay for Snell because of the draft pick and loss of international money? Whoops, I guess he couldn't afford Montgomery's 0 penalties either.

“I’ve always said our ultimate goal is to win a world championship and if that doesn’t happen, we have failed in that goal. But no, I’m not going to look at the season and say it was a failure." And that is why Hal Steinbrenner does not give a ****.

I'm a mets fan, as some know, but I was curious, so I looked this up.

It looks like the Yankees dipped under the salary cap in 2021, to reset the tax, then started spending again. Their 2023 and 2024 salaries are in line with the past, inflation adjusted, it's right there with past team salaries. They're 47 million over the cap, which, apart from the 2 recent ownership changes/big spenders (mets and Dodgers) would put them far above every other team.

That said. I do find it odd that they offered 5-150 to Snell but not 2-50 guaranteed to Montgomery. Maybe a lot of the Snell money was deferred as well, not sure.

Steve Cohen is eyeing getting the Mets under the cap for a year maybe 2025 or 2026. One of the reasons he gave out so many 1 year deals and some deferred money this year and why he hasn't made an offer to extend Alonso.

Cortes after the first, in which by the numbers he had a terrible inning, was pretty solid overall. Even the homer he gave up was out of the zone.
