I use Muscle Milk. I'm very happy with it. You really have to work to see results with it though. Simple pushups and sit-ups aren't going to cut it.

Re: O.T.-Exercise question
If youre trying to tone up without lifting weights then I would suggest doing High Intensity Interval Training. There are decent programs all over the internet of you google it. Its far superior to any other kind of cardio. As far as gaining ten pounds of muscle while losing your gut, thats tough. If youre completely out of shape simply adopting an intensive weight lifting program and adhering to a simple diet (30% protein, 30%carb, 40%fat with no sugar or fried food) will give you the results youre looking for in 6-8 weeks.
At the end of the day youre going to have to exercise and eat right. If you give so-so effort to getting in shape than youre going to get so-so results. I would suggest you do some research on the internet and find an exercise program and stick with it. Dont eat junk food, takeout, or drink soda/juice. After a while youll find what you enjoy to do for exercise and what type of diet will work for you.
Muscle milk, cytogainer, and other supplements are Whey Protein with cheap ingrediants that are sold to you at 10 times the market price. Dont get ripped off. If you want to take supplements then buy a couple of 5 lb jugs of 100% Whey Protein from GNC for $75.00. Itll last forever, it tastes good, its cheap, and youll get the same results that you will from buying a $4.00 Muscle Milk. If youre just beginning training a couple of scoops of Whey after you training sessions is all youll need for some time.
At the end of the day bro, you gotta put in work. Hit up the gym 5 days a week and hit it hard. Dont count on going with a buddy. Just hit it up bro. Theres nothing better than putting on your first 20lbs of muscle and having your boys coming up to you like "damn kid! You on juice!?!" Its a great feeling.

it doesn't necessarily have to be weights. jump a lot of rope - don't do it at a slow, comfortable pace, but really try to "sprint" with it while running in place. once you get comfortable with it you can add a few things to it (crossovers, doubles, etc., if you're really advanced). if your forearms and shoulders aren't burning and you don't feel your heart beating like a drum then you're doing something wrong . . .
this is a great way to drop some pounds quickly while also adding to your general upper body strength. like everything else, you have to start slow and work your way up. but 2-3 minutes of solid, intense rope jumping is a fantastic strength and conditioning exercise and obviously takes ... well ..... 2 or 3 minutes. there's a reason why boxers do this.

You should definitely drop the fat first--dropping fat means cutting calorie intake, putting muscle on means more calories, so it's pretty tough to do both at the same time.

true though pushups would help the process of losing the gut and building your shoulders and abs at the same time no?

Re: O.T.-Exercise question
And there are various methods that you can undertake to increase the amount of fatty acids you burn as opposed to a combination of muscle and fat that you would normally burn doing cardio. If you want to gain muscle and eventually lose the beer gut and are patient w/ it you'll be able to. Just gotta stop eating bad carbs...eating lean meats (chicken, fish, and turkey breast) and whole grain carbs as opposed to the bad carbs (white bread, pasta, flour)
In the past 4 weeks i've cut my belly fat by 75% (only got a lil left) and gained 10lbs of muscle..my gut wasnt that big tho..i just want a 6 pack

Re: O.T.-Exercise question
U can still bulk if you have a gut, as long as you are dedicated to working out, and eat right, that fat will burn, and you will start to gain muscle
no point putting off working out, just because u want to lose the weight first, work out, eat right, and slowly but surely you will see results.
I start off with
6 egg whites and oatmeal in the morning...glass of milk
Whey Protein Shake hour and a half after breakfast
Tuna sandwich and Apple/orange/banana for lunch
Protein shake few hours after that.
Then eat dinner, which varys......If its a workout day, i will drink a shake about 30 mins before my workout...then eat a spoonfull of Peanut Butter before i go to sleep, if its not a workout day, i will drink a shake before i go to sleep, with the spoonfull of peanut butter.
I workout every other day

Gaining muscle and losing fat simutaneoulsy is very hard to do....being that you said you are skinny with a gut...i would suggest bulking first by increasing workout intesity as well as calories then after a few months cut calories(primarily carbs) and do more cardio based training.

Pushups are a good exercise that can bu used as part of an overall routine. A few sets of pushups arent going to really make much of a difference, no matter what they said in the perfect-puchup commercial. It seems to me that you want the easiest way to lose your gut and tone up a bit. 10lbs of muscle is a substantial amount of muscle to put on, and you arent going to do it through puch ups alone. I would suggest that you begin a HITT Interval training routine. There are many different ones, try googling it and finding one that you like. I usually do an 8 week HITT routine every summer and it always help. This summer I went from 6'0" 230 to 215 after 8 weeks of HITT and cutting sugar and grains out of my diet.
