yea...still wish we would've taken him... but he didnt really fit into this team, we already had Crawford and Marbury.. even though obviously those guys aren't in our future plans. ehh whatever man atleast Chandler looked impressive in SL...hopefully we'll finally get our own homegrown all-star (or good player atleast)

Actually that isn't what I was thinking. I'm wondering about how Donnie went about scouting the kid and why he thinks Bayless reminds him of Billups. They're nothing alike at least not at this point. He also said the same of Gordon.
I really haven't compared Gallinari to Bayless as a prospect. Donnie let D'Antony Danza make the pic via I SAY UGH'S scouting report and recommendation. What's done is done, hopefully it doesn't cost us but instead reaps plentiful benefits.

I can sort of see similaries, both are great at getting to the free throw line, both are rather big and solid for the point guard position (6'3"), and both were considered tweeners but high lottery talent coming out of the draft.
If you remember back to how Billups looks in Boston and Denver, looking really mediocre as a point guard and more comfortable looking for his own shot, there's more similarities to be found.

Re: Remember Walsh Said Bayless Reminds Him Of Billups
The reasons being given by the Walsh Apologists, for not taking Bayless are nothing short of comical.
"It didn't make sense to take Bayless because we already have Crawford and Nate"
The thinking after Walsh was hired was that the roster had to be turned over and players would be brought in regardless of what was already on the roster. The obvious reason being that this team needed to be completely rebuilt and not just retooled around Isiah's players. Now apparently, that has changed.
"Why do we need Bayless when he's a similar player as Nate? And Nate is proven."
Anybody who thinks that Bayless' ceiling is the same as Nate's should be drug tested immediately.

Re: Remember Walsh Said Bayless Reminds Him Of Billups
Bayless is more of a scorer and Billups was better as a PG at the same age. I think Bayless really sees himself as a PG though and is willing to curb some of his offense the way Billups does, until he needs to score or take over a game. Under the right tutelage, Bayless can be a very good PG. He'll never be a traditional pass first PG but he'll do enough good things running a team to be successful at the position.
It's too bad Walsh decided to go for the soft project instead of a real player like Bayless.

The other way around, actually. Billups was the more prolific scorer, early on. Magoo made him a better point.

People are trying to down Mayo and Bayless because we didn't get him.
Bayless is a beast. His arms aren't short he just doesn't have long arms. Average wingspan in your height.
Bayless needs to improve his ball handling and passing. ( Very Doable)
In 2-3 yrs this guy can be Deron Williams.

What really seperates Billups from Bayless is that Billups is a really good defensive pg. I doubt Bayless will ever be as good defensively. Billups also has a lot of good intangible qualities such as toughness and leadership.
Mavs

PF: Sabonis | Lauri Markkanen
SF: Lebron | Lauri Markkanen
SG: DWhite | Lonnie Walker | Shake | Ty Jerome

Their athleticism is light yrs apart. Billups likes to over power his man by getting into the body of defenders early. Billups shoots off screens much more. Billups is a better passer and was so in college. Yes Billups scored the rock but he passed the ball in college also. He never really was all that much of a gunner his first yrs although his assist numbers weren't the best. He's basically taken the same amount of FGA his whole career it's just that he improved as a point guard as do most good pg's in this league. Bayless showed in the SL he was in 100% attack mode until the very last game and played even more like a 2 guard by allowing the game to come to him and letting Koponen be the table setter for his offense. I saw nothing Billupsish in his game.
Now if Donnie Washed Up says he reminds him of Billups what did Bayless show him because according to everyone on this board Bayless looks like a far cry from a point guard.

Bayless is Marbury right down to the cockiness and menacing Glare
