Trade with Atlanta

Post#1 » by Knick 4ever » Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:22 pm

Curry, Balkman, Malik and Crawford

for

Zaza, a draft pick and J. Smith??????????????

They need a SG to replace Childress and Crawford can be that guy. Since they don't want to pay Smith top dollars, they might consider Curry and Crawford as an excellent investment.

It's worth a try. Zaza can play Center with Smith at either SF or PF.

if ATL really knew they had not shot at keeping Smith, Curry could fit next to Hortford. But ATL would be crazy to let Smith go, keep the team together, you almost beat the Celtics.

Knicks would then have to move ZBo even more so. Just now for a C.

We are giving them an expiring in Malik and a young talent in Balkman. Really, I don't even like Josh for the Knicks, because I like Chandler and I am also willing to see what Danillo is made off. I am just searching for a good option for Curry and Crawford, because I desperately want them out of town.

Why would you be searching for a Center if we have Zaza Pachulia who happened to be good defensively and also has an all around game? We would need to move Zach for draft picks and cap space, but that's about it.

0 chance they would take such a deal....and you have them throwing in a pick as well?!

Maybe they would take Curry, Crawford, Lee for J.Smith, Claxton...

Imagine if we could follow that up with a Randolph for Camby deal straight up...

C : Camby - Jeffries
PF: Smith - Gallinari - Rose
SF: Chandler - Balkman
SG: Marbury - QRich - Roberson
PG: Duhon - Robinson - Speedy - Collins

That would be a fun team to watch...

ATL
C : Curry - Zaza - Jones
PF: Horford - Lee
SF: Johnson - Williams
SG: Crawford - Stoudamire
PG: Bibby - Law

...they seem to get a ton of value for Smith....Curry/Horford/Lee make a strong big man rotation with Zaza off the bench. Williams can come in for the 3 or 4 and fill the role Childress left off the bench. Salim and Law off the bench can spell Bibby and Craw....

LAC
C : Kaman - Jordan - Fazekas
PF: Randolph - Powell
SF: Thorton - Thomas
SG: Mobley - Gordon
PG: Davis - Knight

...I still think Randolph compliments Kaman much more than Camby does...Id be willing to throw in Collins or Balkman as well...

None of that will happen but its a great dream...

So they didnt want to pay Childress 6 million

dont want to pay Josh 10+ million

but somehow they will just trade for salary instead of just signing their own players and give you their only true center to boot ?

I would do that deal as well. Lee is a nice player, but we have to cash in while his value is up. Trading for Smith would put us in a bind, because he would basically be taking from Danillo unless we would be looking to convert Danillo into a SF and move Chandler to the 2 spot which I believe is very doable.

That deal would save them a ton of money for 2010. They would then be able to acquire a player like Lebron or one of the other big names to pair with Joe Johnson and Bibby.

Not to mention the Hawks are reluctant to give Josh Smith a large contract because they can have massive room under the cap to sign free agents next year. They're monitoring their cap situation.

They'd rather let Josh Smith walk than take back Curry and Crawford's contracts.

They will resign Josh Smith, they're just trying to lock him up for cheap. Josh Smith doesn't have any leverage. Either he accepts the Hawks offer or the QO.
I'm even starting to think they'll hope he accepts the QO and play another season for cheap.

Bibby has one year left and Johnson is gonna be a free agent the same year as lebron so who exactly would be on this team again besides Horford ? How does adding two players whose contracts run through 2010 save Atlanta money ? They would be adding salary by doing this deal.

Alanta has pathetic low post scoring. Also is should be noted that Josh Smith played almost exclusively at PF for Atlanta.

If they resign Smith they are pretty much STUCK with the current team. They are NOT going to cross into lux tax area.

If they want Curry who even being a fat slob would fit into a rotation of Curry, Zaza, and Horford.

No matter how you slice it Horford has earned a starting spot next year. Smith is not a center in the offense Atlanta runs. So would Woodson really play

Smith
Horford
Williams
Johnson
Bibby

That team is not very big. So wouldnt i be better if they could get a low post option that basically would be an expiring in the summer of 2010 if he doesnt opt out. I think there will be trades available for an expring 28 year old center playing for a new contract.

Curry
Horford
Williams
Johnson
Bibby

With that line up you actually have people who can knock down shots surrounding Curry.

Atl has options. Even if they dont keep Smith they can still move him for value. There are a lot of teams who could offer some quality for the kid.

Pachulia is not a good defensive player. And if he had this all around game the Hawks would not have drafted Horford and started him at C.

His girl friend (now wife) wanted to return to Chicago to attend a baby shower. Curry followed her, passing up an concert with Destiny's Child that the Hawks had arranged for them.

His agent apologized, claiming mis-communication. Hawks were understandably insulted & never pursued Curry after that

A few months later, Bulls traded him to NY

ummm....that's Walsh's plan as well if I remember. Plus I'm sure Atlanta would never do a sign and trade with an Eastern Conference team anyway.

No. He left because McDonalds was doing a "buy two get one free" in Chicago. He just couldn't miss that opportunity.
