Remember 04-06 Boozer? Who else is there THIS year.

Post#1 » by Manhattan Project » Fri Sep 5, 2008 11:04 pm

Remember when he left the Cavs and bolted to the Jazz for the money, most people thought it was going to blow up in the Jazz face. Only starting 70 games in two years and constantly hurt, most thought it was over for him. However the last two years happened and all of a sudden everybody loves Boozer. My question that I bring up is what players looked like they are washed up, but with a new scene could really emerge?

Im saying the name Larry Hughes mainly because that will be the most popular answer in this thread, so thus he is no longer available. Also Marko Jaric is not a player that can break out, he has started and will continue to be the player he is. Best thing he has going for him aside from Adriana is his height.

I don't really follow your logic, but if you're looking for a young up-and-coming player who was overlooked in the draft but has the potential to break out and become a star -- try Wilson Chandler.

Last year, it looked like Dunleavy Jr was that guy. Everyone wants to say Teen wolf, blah blah blah but the fact is that Dunleavy, offensively has a tremendous, rare skill set. Scrubs dont average 19 5 4 with damn good shooting %s in the first year of a new uptempo system which his game is built for.

A guy I look to see break out this year is going to be James Posey. He's a guy that you can never have on the floor too long because he plays terrific defense, makes hustle plays and knocks down 3s. Imagine the shot opportunities he'll have with Chris Paul running the point.

Buddy Hield / Timothy Luwawu / Stanley Johnson
Kendrick Nunn / Matisse Thybulle / Darius Miller
RJ Barrett / Kyle Kuzma / Dwayne Bacon
DeAndre Jordan / Kenrich Williams / DJ Wilson

How is Posey going to break out? He's 31 years old and he's got two rings already... Also, he's not going to be any better than he was in his last year in Denver - He was putting up good numbers back then.

It doesn't happen that often, so it's a tough prediction to make.

And I certainly wouldn't look at any 30 year olds to be the next guy. Could it be Darko? That would be a great big LOL if we landed him and he turned into a 17/9/2 stud.

Another guy who did it was Chauncy. He was quite average until he found himself in Detroit.

and one could argue Camby, after 3 or 4 seasons of sosoness he exploded in the 99 playoffs and then he became a true center in the 2000-2001 season.

but it seems to happen that a player surprises us like this only once every few years. It's much more common for an expected future star to turn into a dud. Tough prediction to make.

Carlos Boozer was a mess when he first got to Utah. He was constantly injured, was overpaid, did not play defense, and the team sucked. Once he started playing on a more consistent basis and the team started winning, everyone started praising him. Other than his injuries, I would say his situation is most similar to Zach Randolph. If the Knicks start winning, everyone will start praising Zach...

Delonte West and Luke Ridnour are players that could use a change of scenery. West can be much more than just a role player and Ridnour is such a great shooter whose strengths are not being utilized.

Again, I really don't understand the topic, but here's my list of (somewhat) under-the-radar players who are in great positions to step up to the next level this season:

Marvin Williams
Danny Granger
Al Thornton
Rudy Gay
Charlie Villanueva
Ramon Sessions
Devin Harris
Mickael Pietrus
LaMarcus Aldridge
Beno Udrih
Jose Calderon

Some of these guys are already very well-known, but haven't quite blossomed to the full extent. Look for Gay and Granger to become All Stars this season. I suppose I could add Chandler and Lee to that list as well, but that's probably a stretch.

I add TT and Bargnani to that list as well and like I said before AB is at a state where he sucked so bad he has to get better. LOL

What position is Bargnani going to play? Bosh & JO have the 4 & 5 pretty much locked down. Do you really think Bargnani will thrive as a SF? I don't.

Damn it's hard to believe people are still drinking the Tim Thomas cool aid.

I'm guessing TT = Tyrus Thomas.

I could be wrong though and Tim Thomas could still have a fan out there. Eh.

Corey Maggette comes to mind. As long as he stays healthy (not likely but still), he might look great in Nellies system.

Nene, with Camby gone Nene becomes their center and health is an issue with him as well, but with the extra minutes he could have a solid season being the go to guy in the middle.

change of venue break outs? Is that what we are talking?

Well I think Brand will destroy the east and I think Miller is gonna make some people crazy in Mini. I also think the addition of Jermiane will be brutal in Tor.

but the big time changes, the most improved guys, I dont think changed teams.

Id bet that this seasons standout/breakout players are gonna be either Joe Johnson or Josh Smith in Atl and Danny Granger in Indy.

Meh, this was the way I was thinking.

Trade Board Three Years Ago:
Jazz Trade: Carlos Boozer
Knicks Trade: Player X

Knicks Fan response: Carlos Boozer is lazy, overpaid and chronically injured.

Fast forward two years later, Boozer is now a somewhat coveted player.

So I used the Larry Hughes example because there are some people that still believe that he can recapture his Wizard days of playing basketball.

Boozer is the exact same guy he was as a Cavalier. He's a good rebounder but undersized. He can finish well around the basket with either hand. But the most obvious thing about Boozer is that he still doesn't play any defense.
