Here's the thing about Walsh, or any GM for that matter.
It's fair to judge them on who they draft, who they pick to run the team, and what trades they make.
It's sometmes OK to judge them on who plays and who doesnt (though that's largely the job of the coach, the GM can make suggestions).
it's sometimes Ok to judge them on reported trades they turned down, but you have to be very careful here, because a lot of rumored trades are just not true.
Last year, the Zach to Milwaukee trade was, I believe, a confirmed rumor that the Milwaukee GM accepted, but Milwaukee's owner overrode and turned it down. That was Zach for Gadruzich, that overpaid small forward and another guy - don't recall the specifics, but that rumor had some validity to it.
This rumored Zach for 2nd round pick to the Clippers - Totally unconfirmed. Absolutely unconfirmed, and not only that, but the guy who reported it, retracted it.
what's next, Blaming isiah Thomas for the Pat Ewing trade that happened 3 years before he got here. It's just as logical.
On Balkman, yeah - I get that, some fans are upset, but I don't see it as that bad a trade, and I think walsh was right. Balkman was out of the rotation.
