but wasnt the pick traded? That means Knicks are drafting Nene because Denver told them to draft Nene for them.

1. Nene (trade) / Amare
2. Weiss / Artest
3. Balkman / Rondo
4. D. Nichols / Sessions
5. Gallinari / B. Lopez (hopefully this pans out for us)
Really? Jared Jeffries. Seriously?

The Knicks could have drafted someone who wasn't so likely to be a bust and actually played a position of need but instead they drafted Gallinari.

Weiss over Artest definitely hurt the most. It's not even one of those hindsight things, EVERYONE knew that was a mistake when it happened. In a recent TNT or ESPN game where JVG was commentating he even brought it up.

I also would have liked to seen Ellis/Granger/Bynum over Frye.

Weis over Artest is the one that ripped my heart out -- in my mind there was no way we were passing on Ron-Ron -- when I heard Freddies name I fell to my knees.

I did some quick research dating back a few years -- it's remarkable how many years since the mid-80s the Knicks didn't even have a 1st round pick.

Here are some guys we missed on....

92 Hubert Davis over Sprewell
96 J. Wallace & W. McCarty over Big Z Ilgauskis
99 Weise over Artest, Posey and AK47
2002 Nene over Amare, C. Butler & T. Prince
2003 Sweetney over Diaw, Barbosa, Pietrus, David West, Travis Outlaw and Josh Howard

Interestingly enough Mardy Collins (who is getting some minutes with the Clips) may end up having a longer shelf life than this list of characters drafted ahead of him......

Sheldon Williams
Patrick OBryant
Saer Sene
Thabo Sefalosha
Cedrick Simmons
Rodney Carney
Sean Williams
Oleski Petcherov
Quincy Douby
Marcus Williams
Shannon Brown
Maurice Ager

It just goes to show you what a crap shoot the draft is --- even high in the first round.

Let's all kneel and say a prayer for Gallo.

This thread also shows you that soft Euro's like Freddy Weiss & others aren't the only guys that bust out -- obviously a very high % of american born players fail the NBA grade as well. It just goes to show you how talented and or lucky you need to be to cut the NBA grade.

Its easy to look back at it now and see who is having a better career in the NBA. For example in the John Wallace draft, the Knicks got Wallace, Dante, and McCarty when that happened I was excited because of the prospect of Wallace and Dante having strong showings in the NCAA tournament. No one knew of Ilgauskas. From what I remember when Nene was drafted Amare said something like he did not want to play in NY.
