Jermaine O'Neal anyone?

Post#1 » by Knicksick » Tue Jan 6, 2009 7:02 pm

Dude is getting 14points/8rebounds/2blocks----he has lost a lot of athleticism etc. etc. but he can still defend, block shots and shoot the midrange jumper. His huge contract expires after next season so he doesn't interfere with 2010. He'd be a good stop gap till then IMO.
I don't know exactly what the Raptors are looking for but Marbury for O'Neal might make some sense for both teams. Raptors might get a good SG for the rest of the season and free up enough money to go after a good FA this year(might even be a good idea since 2010 they'll have a lot of competition for FA's).

we have enough big midrange shooters. Hell, even Jeffries has been working with Houston and showing dividends as a result.

Jo is a shadow of his old self and he can't guard his own man.

I would take on the extra year of salary just to send Marbury to Canada. ;)

Na, I don't think it's worth it. The guy would be damaged playing in an up tempo system and would just increase our odds of getting out of the lottery with no real connection to our future plans (key).

JO for marbruy is a no brainer.

O'Neil may not be the player he was but hes still a very solid center who actually defends.

On top of that players with worse injuries have come back 100% recently

however someone pointed out that it might be a mistake to try to help out a rival for a free agent. If Tor uses that cap space to sign a stud or two that might lock up Bosh from coming here

Then again you shouldnt count your chickens before they hatch. A bird in the hand is better than a Bush, or whatever

Marbury for JO is trading nothing for something. No matter how injury prone he is, he's up by 2010 and he gives us size with range. I do it.

I hear ya but a bird in the hand is a sure thing. JO is anything but. He might be a bird in the bush, i.e. potentially could help us, but not worth the risk for $40mil. Taking him helps Toronto huge, we don't need and shouldn't do so. The JO ship has passed, let's keep looking.
