Any reason why the dunk contest isn't just entertainment?

Post#1 » by richardhutnik » Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:56 pm

I heard complaints about it being a showcase of skill, and too many gimmicks and the use of props. Well, why shouldn't the dunk contest just be pure entertainment? Who cares if guys bring out props. Why shouldn't the criterion be the person who entertains the crowd the most wins it?

So, on this, Kryptonate happens to know how to entertain the crowd, and wins it for that.

by your definition of 'entertainment', chris andersen should have won the dunk contest years ago.

+1
Bill Bradley: BNO doesn't annoy me with his pessimism. It's more about the very core of his being that I find annoying.

the dunk contest has been declining since 2000 and it hit rock bottom this year.

It was just pathetic. Hopefully King James will bring back its essence which are the DUNKS,, not candles or capes etc etc. It should be about the dunks, period.

I disagree, the shopwmanship is equal to the skill being shown.

Its entertainment at its best, they just make these dunks look easy

My fantasy competitors in a *dunk* contest:

- Jason Richardson
- Vince Carter
- Kobe Bryant
- LeBron James
- Andre Iguodala

No more 7-footer big man in a contest; no more 5'11" small man jumping over people;

I WANT REAL DUNKIN' CONTEST!

There are only so many ways you can dunk a ball. It pretty much has all been done before; which is why you see players using various props.

That being said, I'm pretty sure Nate can do so much better. He is so small and so athletic which allows for him to do a variety of different moves.

Hey Bench Warmer, feel free to contact the mods on here. I do have other things to do with my life. I had repeatedly requested to get by account banned back then, and they refused to. So, I am back.

But, go ahead and try. How about this: We do a joint ban. You and I BOTH get banned from here. Deal?

- Rich

Anyhow, if there are any complaints do take it up with the mods. I am more than willing to leave, if it would make this forum better.
