OT RECENT MUSIC HELP (like seriously)

Post#1 » by NySpartan4 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 4:41 pm

hey everyone,

this is nyspartan4 and i needed some help in some of the best music that is out there recently in the past year or so. I am more into hip hop and r&b, rap...pop is alright but no country and not really big into alternative/punk etc. basically good songs with good beats to play in my car. i commute across the state for work (i live in michigan and its a 2.5 hours of drive one way) and the latest songs i have are from the summer of 2008...i havent been in touch with music lately and i have no clue whats new and whats good.

so please help me out with some good music selection...let me know of the songs and the artists and/or albums that are out recently.

thanks in advance!
ps- if anyone has time, maybe you can select your favorite songs on your itunes or something and take a print screen and post it in this thread....or just go ahead and shout out the names. thanks in advance!

lol! why not go on like the radio stations and take down their playlists... hot 97 , power 105.1 and now even like k-rock is playing top 40 so... that couldnt hurt. i dont think i personally could help unless you wanna listen to mostly hip hop... lately i been listening to...

Drake- So Far Gone
Colin Munroe- The Unsung Hero
Black Milk-Tronic (not all that new but whatever)
Joe Budden- Padded Room

...to name a few

(i also just got Dreams new album... not too impressed. CNN-channel 10 is not all that either.)

The new Animal Collective cd is great. It's called Merriweather Post Pavilion. It's hard to explain what kind of music it is, but if you're open minded it's well worth checking out. You'll think it's weird at first but a few listens and you'll not be able to shake the songs out of your head, they manage to do what good pop/folk artists did in the past, make songs that you think you've known forever.

Might not be your cup of tea, but it's good wholesome pop music, and if they can make a decent cross-over song i think they'll be big in a year or two.

Hip hop wise there's been 2 mixtapes worth downloading recently.

Clipse's Road to the Casket Drops.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOLmrtvVM1M&feature=related

Bobby Creekwater's B.C. era.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_RmIKkV1uU

Sort of shames me to play it but i'm really enjoying Prince's back catelogue at the moment. I've always loved Prince's songwriting and singing, but those 80's drums have always grated on me, but just recently they don't seem to bother me as bad, so i've been spinning Sign o' the times.

4pointplay haha thanks for the response! the first song is definitely "different" but i can see how it could be very addictive if you hear it a couple of times. thanks!

If you're looking to be entertained in your car, and you've never listen to reasonable doubt by Jay-Z (which seems possible), then please do yourself a favor and get that album and pop it in during your commute. It is classic from begining to end, while we're on that era..same goes for Illmatic by Nas.

N.E.R.D.- Seeing Sounds. Ignore the **** lyrics, and just appreciate the crazy music. Make sure whatever version you "buy" has the Everybody Nose remix with Kanye, Lupe, and Pusha T on it. They kill that ****. I really can't believe that song didn't blow up. Pusha T destroys it.

Dedication 2 Mixtape consist's of Wayne's best work. The Suffix and Drought 3 are close second and third.

I liked the track "Happy" the best. Great bassline.

Kanye
808s & Heartbreak (the album is a mix of electro, R&B, and Pop. A few good songs)

Jay-z
Jockin Jayz
Swagga Like Us
Brooklyn (Go Hard)

T-Pain
Chopped N Skrewed - ft Ludacris
Can't Believe It - ft Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne (he switched to rock...)
Prom Queen

Daddy Yankee
que Tengo Que Hacer
pose

Pitbull- calle ocho
(Or the orginal) 75 Brazil Street - Nicola Fasano Vs Pat Rich

Others
DJ Drama - Day Dreaming ft. Akon, Snoop Dogg & T.I.
T.I. ft. Justin Timberlake - Dead And Gone
The-Dream Rockin That Thang
FloRida-Right Round ft Kesha
Ne-Yo - Mad

That's all that came to my head. I agree, today's hip-hop sucks. I'm currently listening to electro/house. It's a change for once.

Okay Idk if you've heard these but I'm trying for more recent stuff.

Fabolous' recent mixtape (I think it's there is no better) is full of insane beats.

Dude who mentioned Seeing Sounds is dead on, that album is full of great production (I love the track I'm the ****/Things are getting better especially).

Buddens production is average but his lyricism is on point, peep Future, Who pt.1-3, and In Dreams for some examples.

I like that CNN track super thug is back...beat is dope.

RnB. The Dream's album is dope to rock to with females. Musiq had a track not long ago and dude is always on point.

Besides those, I'ma have to think about it.

Old school choices for long rides...

Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic, Minds Playing Tricks On Me, De La Soul Is Dead, Muddy Waters, and Da Art of Storytelling ....if you don't know the artists...google the albums. Phrenology too.
