I honestly feel like he'll come over and play for us next season. His current deal will allow us to buy him out and this article kind of reaffirms him warming up to the idea. Rubio will come over next year, Fran will follow.

This guy can run the floor, swat shots, and just jump out of the building. He's Gortat's insurance with more to offer, so we'd then be able to upgrade in another area (via Gortat trade).

Errrr... get ready to be burned by Franny then. He's been doing it to us for years

i would be rather shocked if vasquez turned out to be a better nba player than gortat. or bass. or anderson.

People said similar things about guys like Luis Scola. The very nature of the European game, and also the stats players put up, lead to suggestions that they wouldn't fit in in the NBA. Fran Vazquez is a very good man and team defender, a good rebounder and shot blocker, and has decent range on his shooting (when he is allowed to shoot). He has a very NBA friendly style.

I was burned when we opted to select Fran instead of Danny Granger  (also, when we lost out on Blatche in the 2nd RD that year) :-?

I was burned when I though he'd come in 07'-08', but signed an extension. Though with maturity and alot of guys warming up to the idea of coming (Rubio, now Splitter) back to the NBA, and along with our elite-like team and Dwight Howard, seems like a perfect fit and the buyout seems plausible.

Honestly though, I think the magic are just trying to stir things up in order to get some sort of value for him. I highly doubt Otis and Co. will make him wear the Magic jersey considering the negative press he got us.

Hopefully this is true.

I wonder why people take gambles on drafts like this?

Again, I highly doubt he ever plays for the Magic, but if he did , Ryan or Bass would need to be traded .

If he did, it would likely be Bass or Gortat. IMO.

I do not see the Magic trading Anderson for the rest of his career, unless he totally flops. He is 22 still, right? No way I keep Bass or Gortat over Ryno. I would love to see:

Like others have said he is saying this so he gets better contract from his current team. He said all of this before and he used it to get himself the contract he is playing under now.

It's just a repeat of that same old jerk. Using the Magic card to get himself a better contract. Never going to see him. What a waste of a draft pick.

Well. to Fran's credit, last year he was offered a luccrative 3-year extension, and he only signed one year.

That said, I have troubles envisioning Fran playing in the NBA

If Fran Vazquez is inked for Orlando, then Anderson and/or Bass need to be traded.

What makes more sense is for Orlando to trade Vazquez to Minny. Fran then gets to keep playing with Ricky Rubio (who is also likely to come stateside in 2011).

Orlando won't want Milicic in the trade, and one can wonder if the babywolves would include Nikola Pekovic in any deal. So, this would have to be a three team thing.

from an Orlando Magic standpoint, i just don't trust the guy. he seems so non-commital. it's like the girl that refuses to make up her mind. you just gotta cut her loose and in five years time you'll bump into her in a strip club.

I doubt they give us Pekovic, who is one of the top bigs in Europe right now, and three years younger than Fran, unless Rubio himself said he really wanted Fran to be in Minny with him.

I know people are reticent to think about trading Ryno, Gortat or Bass, but if Fran comes over here with the intention of playing for Orlando (and I acknowledge the possibility that he is just using the Magic as contract leverage), at least one of them is expendable, and rightly so. People look at the few internet hilights they can find of him, and see that he averages 7.5 and 3.5 in the Euroleague, and assume he isn't good enough, or as good as those three guys. It's not a stretch to say that, right now, he is better. Ryno has so much potential, and in time he probably will be the better all round player, but Fran Vazquez is a better defender and has a higher basketball IQ than all three of those guys. Offensively he's not anything special, but he could do a passable job in Orlando, especially on a team that has so much offensive firepower that he'd be low on the list of defensive priorities.

There you go - we send them Bass, they send us Rubio, Fran and Rubio get to keep playing together in Orlando!

I'm sure Kahn could be talked into that. Which is a sad, sad thing for T'Wolves fans.
