Why does Tampa FL have a baseball and a hockey team anyways?

Sentinel article:

I'll probably go. Friendly or not, I'd laugh my ass off if we made a game of things against Philly. MLS may be ****, but our team is nothing but unknowns.

I haven't seen a soccer game at the Citrus Bowl since I went to the '94 World Cup.

I'm down. They've done well marketing the team and I know this is overall a good soccer city. I'll probably show up in an Olympiakos jersey to keep the colors down.

Awesome. I'll be there as well. But, yes our team is really a bunch of unknown's. The roster isn't fully filled either. They have put up Moving Billboards across town, one even sat near the Amway Center before a game. Anyway hope to see some of you guys at the game.

Man I really wish I could get into soccer I really do. I respect the game and the athleticism it takes, I just am not entertained by it unless someone is scoring. When they DO score, its poetry in motion. The bicycle kicks, the passes, all that. Still to watch 90 minutes of off sides and near misses is just maddening. Maybe if they put an extra player on each side and two balls or something. I dunno maybe it would be like baseball, if i went and got drunk it would be ok.
Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

although I do kinda just want to support anything comin out of ORL so we can maybe get the smallest stigma of being a sports city.

Hope to see some of you guys at the game today at 7pm. There will be tailgating in the parking lot by the supporters which means free hot dogs for all. Then the post game party is at Baby Grands Dueling Piano Bar on church street with the players, coaches, and supporters. Come out and support! Go City!!!!

Congratulations!
As an argentine (this apply to brazilians too) is still shocking to hear that you call it soccer. I hesitate to call it soccer, I prefer football, futbol or futebol, as it should be.
Hey Momm and rip, let's teach some tricks to this yankees  I'm joking man  .U.S football has grown a lot on the last couple of years. USA can be top at any sport that you want, your infraestructure is so big and important, that you can reach the sky if you want it. But in soccer, there's something that is still missing...call it passion, love for the game (as you feel it for basketball, that I admire) I don't know...we are used to play futbol since we born, on the streets, on the break on school, everywhere and everyday.
Anyway, this is very important for Orlando, there are many latins living there.
Congratulations again and please share with us the jersey and logo of the team! :D

Quick Update....Orlando City beat MLS team Philadelphia Union 1-0 for Orlando City's first ever game and more importantly, first ever win.

That's a start, even the biggest clubs in europe started from a bunch of guys kicking a ball around. What really makes it take off is the support from the fans and the connection to a city (that's gone too far these days in europe but that's another story).

Same as here in South America with almost all teams with more than 100 years of history. That's true Alez, my team here in Argentina, San Lorenzo, started with a couple of kids playing on the streets.

Who has scored the goal? Is there a web page? I really want to know how does the jersey look like.

The jersey's are pretty plain at the moment. They look like England Lite, the home version anyway. Though they will change by the first game this year when sponsors are released. And they will most def look different by our 2nd year as said by the front office. As far as a web page its.... www.orlandocitysoccer.com

As for the goal it was a free kick by Lewis Neal (19). Check it out.
