I am surprised.

However, given the state of NCAA credibility, maybe I shouldn't be so surprised.

To clarify we won our appeal for the postseason ban. All the other sanctions are still there. :P But YES! Now if we win the AAC this season we'll play in a BCS Bowl Game. :) Long shot of course, but it gives us a LOT to play for and should help make this the most anticipated season ever with our schedule.

Interesting rumor of us playing a game in Ireland next year vs. penn state. I'd be 100% behind it if it didn't take a marquee game away from our home schedule.

Like they would take the home game away from Penn State??? Definitely UCF. Unless, they just add one more game to the schedule which would be cool as all hell.

As a long time season ticket holder, I will be pissed if the Penn St game is moved

I would think the best solution would be to add a year to the series. That Penn State game would be a big reason to buy season tickets.

Also... in the rumor department. With the ACC signing the grant of rights the "rumor mill" known as twitter mentions the big 12 considering UCF and USF as potential members. I personally don't see it happening unless they are forced by Fox to expand.

What is to be gained to play a game in Ireland? I don't understand.

Other than TV exposure and a cool trip for the athletes and staff... Nothing for 99% of the team's fans. I'd rather have the home game against Penn State. Our fan base needs more compelling games to draw people to the stadium.

The spin is about exposure on a national level...and a nice trip for those that can make the trip.

It'll tick off most of the donor base though.....me included

Reading the comments by OSU's AD about wanting to break off and make a new ncaa division has me nervous the window is closing on any chance of catching up.

So its an excuse for the administrators to get a free trip to Ireland. Makes sense....

Re: UCF Football: Kickoff Countdown

Post#1038 » by UCFJayBird » Thu May 9, 2013 6:07 pm

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for the student athletes to go and play in another country. Many of the athletes never set foot on an airplane before joining the team, now they might get to go to another country? That's an amazing opportunity for the students/players. People complain that students don't get paid, at least these players might get a fantastic experience abroad. Also the level of national/global exposure would be huge for UCF, which is still relatively unknown.

Having said that, I too would be upset that I wouldn't be able to attend the game. Hopefully Penn State would be willing to make this an additional game to the series and we'd still get a home game vs them.

However I think the pros outweigh the cons and am in support of the game if it happens.

European exposure would be fantastic to be honest.

I don't know what the attendance would be like though. Can't imagine too many UCF alumni being able to make the trip. We'd clearly be outnumbered by Penn State supporters just based on ease of travel.

I doubt that the international exposure will have much if any impact.

The ESPN hype prior to the game will have limited impact.

I'm assuming that the game would have an early (noon Eastern time at the latest) kick off, and if so.... the amount of viewers during the game will be minimal.

I haven't heard what the TV money will bring for moving the game, but if it' substantial....then I'll understand the motive.

However, if the money doesn't offer enough support...that's another story.

I get the overseas thing though....and how great of an experience it will be for the players...... so, I'm assuming my discontent will subside!
