Dude has that much pull regardless how often he is in the actual city of Orlando or not. We talk to people face to face via iPad for business all the time with technology the way it is. I am cool with Shaw as a coach, but just not sold on Scottie Pippen as this may degrade Foyles role with the team. I don't know how much clout Scottie has as he is a bit abrasive as a personality and I don't know how that will work involving deals with other GM's. At least Foyle is respected.

But, just for the point that Phil will always be able to lure players to this franchise and keep them competitive, that is what I want is for the Magic to always be a top 4 playoff team.

Best case scenario. Phil/Penn/Shaw!

what pull? I dont remember FA's running to sign with LA for Phil, they always mentioned Kobe or Shaq.

i'm with dsg. i like the promise of having Phil involved, and the potential lure he might have. then again, MJ's lure hasn't done much for Charlotte. Bird's lure hasn't done much for Indiana. so, maybe it's all moot point?

at this point i'm starting to think that if we can do anything to get Doc Rivers out of Boston and back in Orlando, he just might be able to convince Dwight to stay. what he's doing with Boston right now is sure to have turned Dwight's head.

Great points.

I just think that if Phil has "interest" in a job in ORL, then Alex should capitalize and do his best to come to an agreement. Obviously a GM can't be away from the team 3/4 of the year, but perhaps there is another role to be filled that Phil can fill (words are fun to play with :D) or maybe we can offer something that meets Phil half-way and have him be here half the time instead of 1/4. I just like that interest is being shown.

Phil wasn't going to do much in town anyway. It's not like Pat Riley is running the day to day in Miami. That's all Phil wants. A courtside seat every now and then and to talk to free agents. We could use a Pat Riley in our front office with a real GM (man those words...) to handle the day to day.

As a whole the proposal is not bad as a position in say long term details. However, considering the state of the team, A much more hands on approach is necessary in the short term. That should be a follow up approach for this. If that could be agreed upon, having Jackson with a vested interest in the team would be huge.
Im like a dog chasing cars, I wouldnt know what to do with it if I caught one.

Oh yeah, good news. I'd take Phil in any kind of role, and it doesn't matter if he's sitting at a desk in Orlando or not. With today's technology, you don't have to be in the same building to do the job anymore. Its a traveling job anyway if you really get down to it. Many times the gm is on the road doing his thing, and I'm sure that Phil would be able to do that just the same, but his base camp and life is in L.A. That shouldn't present a problem. His salary was always going to be high as well, that's why I like the slice of ownership as part of his pay. It makes this scenario more real now. He's a proven commodity and we should do everything in our power to get him. I would have been cool with someone like Bower, but this adds that extra excitement that we need. Not sure if it would secure Dwight or not, but that doesn't matter to me as much anymore. If the guy wants to leave, then let him go and rebuild. Either way, I'd feel comfortable with Phil at the helm.

Latest attempt to bring Phil Jackson to Magic front office likely won't gain traction

The latest attempt by Sam Vincent to broker an agreement that would place Phil Jackson and Vincent in the Orlando Magic front office probably will not gain traction with team officials, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

In their search to replace Otis Smith, the Magic plan to hire someone who will be in Orlando on a full-time basis as well as someone who has experience working at the highest levels of a basketball operations department.

There's a lot more in the story related to our GM search, but this is the new news related to PJax in ORL.

I have no idea what Dwight Howard is going to do. It seems like he will leave but The Magic are not going to play that game next weekend.

Brian Shaw might end up as the coach regardless but do the DeVos' want to give a piece of the team?

Who knows.

The most important thing is someone coming in with Phil Jackson here like Kevin Pritchard.

My feeling though is it will be a regular GM like Pritchard, Penn but hopefully not Bower and this Phil Jackson thing will not happen.

The thing with Phil is he bring A LOT of value to the team financially.

If he was a part owner, then he has a BIG reason to make the team successful, period end of story.

I would give him a good shot at it. If the Magic are serious about putting a winner on the floor WITH OR WITHOUT Dwight, having Phil Jackson becoming the head Architect is the best possible move you can make.

Like I said, Hell would have to freeze over first. The proposal is so high that it sounds more like sarcasm then actual negotiating.

Shaw has a history with Orlando. I remember seeing Shaw and Shaq hang out at clubs together sometimes with Nick A and Horace. Thus, I bet he would get along well with the team here as they are a close knit group. Phil in somewhat of a management capacity was always a coach that delegated much authority to his subordinates. Thus, I bet he would surround himself with quite a team that he could manage remotely and not have to be hands on regarding every situation. But, he would definitely bring value to the equation and would mix well with Shaw.

Lakers stole Shaq, so Magic gave them Dwight!

I thought the Magic fired Otis!

Just change their name to the LA Sterns!

what aptitude has he shown that he can be the architect of a team? from a scouting perspective? player development perspective? financials?

he always seem to take what his GM gave him and won. Great coach, have no idea at all if he would be a good GM.

12 millions for a GM seems to me steep. His health will probably impede him to scout players and travel around the world. He also wants part ownership, that appears to be a king`s ransom for a guy with no experience and health problems.
2013 Draft
Burke/ McCollum / Wolters
Oladipo/ Shabazz/ Mclemore
Porter / Adetokumbo / Saric
Zeller/ Benett/ Olynik
Noel / Adams / Len

Can you elaborate on that? I'm not sure what you mean by it.
I found that if you have a goal, that you might not reach it. But if you don't have one, then you are never disappointed. And I gotta tell ya... it feels phenomenal.
