Denton: Vaughn Has His Coaching Staff

ORLANDO -- The staff around new Orlando Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn started taking shape on Thursday when three assistants, two player development coaches and a special consultant were officially named by the team.

James Borrego, Wes Unseld Jr. and Brett Gunning were hired as assistant coaches under Vaughn, who was named head coach by the Magic on July 28. Luke Stuckey and former Magic draft pick Laron Profit have been named assistant coaches/player development coaches, while veteran NBA assistant coach Gordon Chiesa was tabbed as a special consultant to the head coach.

If this team is being built to tank, the coaching staff is definitely set to tank.

Care to tell us uninformed peoples why you think they suck?

Because I don't know who any of them are or really think it matters at this point.

Well, I still like many players on this team, so I can't say the Team is built to tank. I think this team is too good to be the lowest (5) in the league.

But, the Nets tanked with Deron Williams, so who knows.

Regardless, anytime you take a bunch of no-name low experienced coaches outside the ones mentioned above with little to no pedigre, the team is set to struggle for a year or two until they can get the right chemistry and flow. So, I presume that means tanking for a year or two. Maybe, Henny planned it that way.

While with Utah, Chiesa was directly involved with the development of the team’s offensive skills and was in charge of game preparation for all opponents. During his tenure with the Jazz, Chiesa helped guide Utah to two Western Conference crowns, three Midwest Division championships, a record of 809-471 (.632) and 14 consecutive postseason appearances, including 149 playoff games.

if it weren't for Jordan he'd likely have two rings to his name too. So many people can say that though, lol.

Keep in mind this is a position as Special Consultant. He has been unemployed since 2005 and is getting up there in age as he has been in coaching since the 70's.

He won't be sitting on the bench and will be a consultant, not working with the Players.

Nothing substantial, but a great voice to have around to give a rookie coach like Vaughn pointers as a "Consultant."

Are Stuckey and Profit gonna sit on the bench during games? Or is it just gonna be JV plus his three assistants?

I'd imagine all 5 will be on bench. SVG had 5 as well -- Ahmad Ajami, Bob Beyer, Steve Clifford, Patrick Ewing, and Brendan Malone

only 3 assistants are allowed to sit on the 1st row bench; all other assistants will sit behind the bench.
