You nailed it. When the opponent clamps down on defense it is like nobody gets a clean shot or can create their own shot. Except JJ sometimes, but he can only do so much. Really need Meer in the lineup for those situations.

Afflalo, Harkless, Vucevic and some future firsts for Carmelo ;)

Guys.. henny is a genius or just plain lucky. We miss out on the nightmare that is Bynum's fatness and injury drama, we miss out on HOU's Royce White who could have been part of the package if we traded with them, we miss out on the meh-meh performance of iggy so far.

Plus that Toronto pick HOU was dangling could end up being anyone! It could even be this guy!

There was some feeling that Andrew and Harkless should have been in the Knicks game during the closing stretch, since their play got us back in it in the first place. The second Nets game involved the team battling a huge first quarter deficit, and the Bulls game included McRoberts the small forward for some points.
Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?

LOL. When the teams put the pressure on and clamp down on defense in the 4th quarter, as if all of a sudden Harkless and Nicholson are going to create their own shots and save the day this early in their career.

Exactly. They are mostly scoring on putbacks and/or against 2nd team defenses. Not saying that AN doesn't have some decent moves, but expecting him to win you games in the 4th only 7 games into his career is probably a bit of a stretch. That being said... I'd much rather lose with Harkless and AN getting crunch minutes and learning to handle the pressure than lose with our vets in like we did against NYK.

Reminds me of those old Guiness beer commercials:

Hennigan: Alright here here's the plan: were gonna trade our best player for mediocre parts which will cause the team to suck giving us a high draft pick that we can use to draft another good player.

Lloyd: Suck so we can get a high draft pick to draft a good player? BRILLIANT!

I'm not saying either of them will put the team on their backs, but Nicholson gives the defense that much more to worry about, and Harkless alleviates the pressure Carmelo puts on the Magic. Besides, Andrew and Moe helped the team get into the game before, why not see if it works again?

This early in their career, I would rather have a veteran who understands the nuances of NBA team play than a rookie acting on instinct. That just puts more pressure on the other players on the court to make up for the rookies being out of position. There is not a chance they get major burn this early in the season by any coach in the league. Harkless may get more time eventually before Nicholson mainly because he can play defense. Once they start playing better team defense and quit missing rotations, they will get more minutes. Time has to be earned and not just earned because they scored a few buckets or have a few cool moves. That is why fans are not GM's or coaches.

Fair enough.

Edit: I think it was a mistake this time, though.

Time will tell about the genius part
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

The package we got for Dwight is pretty underrated, at least the players. Afflalo IS a good player, I like his intensity, his shooting and the fact he tries to get to the line. Vucevic is an excellent rebounder and has room to grow on offense and defense. Harkless is a 6'8 guy with crazy athleticism and is only 19, we saw his potential when we blocked like a million of Carmelo's shots. Hell, even McRoberts has contributed in his minutes and is a movable trade piece. We could still get a scoring punch from Harrington, but he is likely an asset for down the line.

While Bynum, Lopez, Iggy or Gasol would be flashier, what do we really get? Bynum's injuries are WAY worse than people were lead to believe. Who knows when he makes his 76er debut. Lopez is soft and incredibly overpaid. Iggy isn't any better than Afflalo really, he isn't doing anything special up in Denver and Gasol is in his 30s. I would've liked better draft picks, but it is what it is. Plus, I'm glad we didn't get Royce White now.

These guys compete way harder than any team we've had in the past couple of years. We have some young talent that will definitely be around here for a while. This team just needs leadership which hopefully Jameer can keep providing and a couple of years from now we should be a top team as all the prima donas in the league start aging.
