John Hollinger is the reason they are trading him. Advanced stats.

If Henny is the Cap Guru he is known for, then I doubt he even thinks twice about adding Shard, I mean Gay.

Highlight vids of a NBA player on youtube will definitely change my opinion.

I was steamed after another close loss last night but then i started to think man we've been in a lot of close games with chances to win them all. Bottom line we can compete but we don't have anything that puts us over the top: Competing with the Knicks, Miami, Blazers, Spurs, Warriors and few others. We're right there in games but we can't close, is this by design? If so it's quite genius to be honest play well enough to compete and show Free Agents that we play to win and at the same time maintaining position in the lottery. That being said even though we're on this losing streak what are we like 4 games back from the 8th seed? can we make the playoffs and still be in the lottery?

While I agree that Gay is not a superstar and not worth his bloated contract, I do wonder sometimes how much his game/stats might expand if he was the #1 option on a team ala Harden. He is on a team where the stats get divided between some upper echelon players in ZBo, Gasol, Conley, Mayo (in the past - but an example of what somebody can do when they are the #1 option after leaving Memphis...).

Do you know that Gay averages 17 shots per game? That's 3 more than the next highest (ZBo). How many more shots does he need? He shoots 41% and has a god awful Moe Harkless-Like 48% TS%.

This season is a massively down season for Gay. Every other year up til now he's had significantly better numbers. Last year when ZBo was down, he was a legit #1 option and he did decently. Nowhere near well enough to justify that contract, but well.

The biggest problem I have with Gay is the final year of his deal and the fact that it is a player option for the biggest free agency period in a long time.

Damn Grizz are like magic fans lol! Trade everyone when your team is doing great.

Doesn't this happen every season with the Grizzlies? Imo 1 of the 2 will have to go for the Grizzlies to take the next step. They seem play a lot better, as a team, when Gay or Randolph are out of commission.

ZBO has been on the market for a while, but Gay became a cap problem less than a year after signing that ridiculous contract. I am positive the Grizz could have signed him for closer to $10 or $12 mil per without other teams being much of a threat. Same with ZBO's contract. And, if they wanted to leave for more, sign and trade for prospects. Grizz were in a great position either way for the future.

Regardless, I really like their team as constructed with the only problem being depth due to their cap constraints. I would really like to see them make one final run this year as constructed. Just to root for the underdog against the big markets. I have been following their rise for years at first as a bipartisan then rooting for the underdog after last years great run.

I like ZBO, but he is mainly a stat machine who plays poor defense. I personally don't think he is that much of an upgrade than BBD while being paid more than Chris Bosh with Dwight Howard dollars for the next 3 years!!!! Not worth it. I like him next to Marc Gasol and put him elsewhere, he is not the same player.

Nice try to hate on BBD though! 8-)

What a terribly eloquent way to respond to my post. Those videos were not only "highlights" but a grand display of next level talent that we currently lack. A clutch game winning shot over the best perimeter defender of this era shows that his length and athleticism are still a rarity in the NBA.

I'm not indicating we give up the house for Rudy Gay, I'm simply displaying that he is much better than some of you have been indicating and if he could be had for a combination of our partially guaranteed contracts, it would definitely be something we would have to consider.

ZBo is a beast who carried his team to the conference finals just 2 years ago. BBD doesn't even begin to compare.

Didn't BBD just carry one of the worst teams in the league to a .500 mark?!?! Who knows what he could do next to Gasol, Gay and Conley! He could prove you wrong! And, I am a fan of ZBO. He has had to prove people wrong in NY and LA then Memphis.

I hope nobody thinks we have a shot at the playoffs at this point. We are now 5 games back of the 8th spot and need to go 29-19 just to get to 41 wins. That's not happening and I hope we milk BBD's injury at this point because I see ZERO reason to win games that only costs us ping pong balls. We have also had the 2nd easiest schedule so far; only the Pacers have had an easier schedule. That is crazy.

We can lose every game for the rest of the season as long as we win March 12th.

Without looking, that has to be the other Laker game right? If so, I agree.
