I know its a process and I called this type of season but its crazy to think that our payroll is that high for such a crappy record.

Funny enough, if you take away Arenas' contract, we have the 8th Lowest payroll... so I guess our talent is properly paid (definitely not properly distributed though).
Man, Otis left a mess.

The guy formerly known as "Agent Zero" is still being paid by the Magic. I agree with thelead, Otis basically took a dump without flushing the toilet. Cleaning up this mess is going to take time.

On the bright side, we're in free fall, collecting more ping pong balls.

The title is misleading. Arenas was amnestied, his salary does not count against our cap.

He's part of the payroll still. If he wasn't amnestied we would have the 3rd worst record

And we lost Rashard Lewis to acquire him...That was the start of the end for that great magic core. Shard was one of the few irreplaceable in the locker room.

I thought Arenas doesn't effect the salary cap?
Who cares about the payroll. I know Rich DeVos does't.

He doesn't effect the cap, thank god. He's still on the payroll though.

Guaranteed Contracts.. I could never be an owner in the NBA... I'd BE PISSED..
Owner's should be able to break OBSCENE contracts and give severance packages, like in normal life... I wish I could suck at my job get fired and get paid the remaining value of my contract... And then work hard enough to fool someone else into paying me lol. Need to grow 8 inches and become a center and fulfill that dream..

Even more...
Arenas 20.8
Harrington 6.6
Quentin 2.6
Eyenga 1.1
Harper 0.8
= Total: 31.9
If we take these contracts out we would spend 52.3 which is the 2nd lowest payroll in the NBA (Rockets has the lowest one).

GM Hennigan was hired specifically to deal with this mess in a context of the forthcoming details of the reality of the current CBA.
Go MAGIC!!!

the reference to payroll doesn't bother me much since the future looks alright

You do realize we lost our star player to TRADE not free agency right?
Yes we have some issues on contract, but as a 50 win team (which we were, for multiple seasons) it was passable, since we are only half a season on and only dropped Ryan as considerable money to free agency ...

Does your point make the stated fact any less true?

Definitely, I can live with that too at this moment. At first I believed that this rebuild was going to be very long and hard. But now I see that we actually have some really good young players with good contracts and we'll have a lot of flexibility in the close future to acquire some stars.

Yes Damo, we also received a player in return (Vucevic, 22 years old) who broke Howard and Shaq rebounds record in less than half a season with the Magic. We dropped Howard, his huge ego and contract, and acquired a young center with a bright future.
