Int's are part of the growing pains.
Elway 7 td, 14 int
Brees 16 td, 17 int (second year after watching first on bench)
P Manning 26td, 28 int
Bradshaw 6 td, 24 int
It's a time and game experience opportunity for young QB's.
I like Blake as much as the next guy but every quarterback you cited is a hall of famer or future hall of famer.
I don't see that kind of upside with Blake over time. He needs the game to slow down at times. He still stares down receivers as the other poster had said. He can learn a ton by sitting
lol, the point was that those guys did not look like future HOFers during their rookie seasons.
IMy specific point if you did read above and do watch football is with the exception of Brees all of those guys were legitimate 1st Round Picks if not legitimate #1 overall picks and thus were considered to be okay to start out the gate. Brees certainly had set backs due to his size though.
Blake Bortles does not have HOF upside. No way. Blake is not and was not a legit #1 overall caliber QB. In a thicker draft he probably would not have even been a high first round pick. While at UCF he did not dominate USF, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Missouri, OSU ....should I continue naming other teams? He did just enough to win. Blake is a winner and that is a good thing. He doesn't have to be elite to win but....all 4 of those boys would have destroyed the American Conference Competition in their collegiate days.
I am a UCF season ticket holder but will be the first to admit Blake was able to cash in on his physical dimensions, phenomenal Junior year run, and most importantly weak QB class. As such Gus should have stuck to the script and let him sit till end of year. His playing has absolutely NOT changed the outcome and the "Messiah" factor he had coming into the season is all but gone due to a desperate and rabid Jags fanbase (or what little is left).
As the previous poster said and I agree Blake does need a solid run game to help him if he going to have any measure of success while he learns on the job. Gerhart was a predicatable bust and D-Rob is a scat back not a legit RB1 in the NFL. If everything pans out Blake will be a 2nd Tier QB but not elite. I get the Rothlisberger comparisons due to size but I don't know that Big Ben was or is considered elite in the same way we all look at Brady, Manning, Elway, Montana. If Blake can be a Rothlisberger the Jags will have done very well. Hopefully they get an O-line in the draft.
