Vaughn & Hennigan extended through 2015-16

The Orlando Magic have extended the contracts of General Manager Rob Hennigan and coach Jacque Vaughn through the 2015-16 season, the team said Friday.

doesnt mean anything . vaughn can be fired after next season if the team wants to go in a new direction. its just a bonus for him.

This is a sad day for Magic fans. This just means another tanking season. Vaughn couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.

I'm sorry to reign on some parades here, to those calling Vaughn a bad coach, I ask this, how many coaches have done well in their first head coaching gigs just a year or two after being an assistant? Very few. Vaughn's not a good coach yet, he's only done it two years. Despite being in the playoffs it was pretty apparent Jason Kidd isn't a very good coach yet, but nobody's placed a guillotine outside his office, yet Vaughn has one? Vaughn's doing just as management asked and he'll coach this team with a playoff ready roster. Deal with it.

Why are we rewarding him for being "not a good coach." Is the thinking that if we don't extend him, someone will come looking to steal away our coach with the 40-120 record?

Vaughn has sucked balls for 2 straight years. That is 160 games of bad coaching.

Now, Magic will be lucky to break 30 wins next year. Good luck attracting free agents or even retaining players when you have a lame duck losing coach.

People should not even think about playoffs anymore. This about killed any chances of playoffs next year. I guess the Magic are going to be rebuilding for a few more years.

what if we're rewarding him for doing what he was asked to do? what if it was decided, "ok jv, we gave you a sub-par roster and asked you to do the worse you can, and you delivered. Now, we'll give you a better roster and give you the same time period to prove you can be the coach for this team for years to come"? Something I notice is that in-spite of all the losing, the players kept playing hard for JV. IMO, that shows they still respect him and he hasn't lost the locker room.

I'm not a high supporter of JV as coach (SVG 4 LIFE!!!) but I do support giving the guy a fair chance to prove he can coach us to more wins than losses when the ultimate goal is WINNING and not "developing players and getting better everyday".

Jacque has done everything asked of him. He's done fairly well making the tanking as subtle as possible. He's had to keep the team being awful while developing the youth for 2 years. He's accomplished it. Now he gets 2 years to actually start winning. Judge him after next season, not now.

I would think Coach Vaughn needs to lead the team to at least 35 wins to retain his job to the new final year of the contract. What this extension does is allow him to take chances without worrying about his next deal; he has that now.
