Top SGs of 2014-15

Post#1 » by MagicFan101 » Thu Aug 21, 2014 11:24 pm

ESPN has posted an interesting list of projected WARP rankings for each position other than C (soon to come). So far only one Orlando Magic player has even made honorable mention but I still found that result interesting.

1) James Harder
2) Dwyane Wade
3) Monta Ellis
4) Jimmy Butler
5) Dion Waiters
6) Tyreke Evans
7) Victor Oladipo
8) Klay Thompson
9) Manu Ginobili
10) Lance Stephenson

Next five: Kobe Bryant, Bradley Beal, Danny Green, Wesley Matthews, J.R. Smith
Also notable: DeMar DeRozan, Joe Johnson

Where do we expect Vuc to end up on the center rankings? I suspect defensive shortcomings will cost him in this sort of ranking systems.

Likewise, Harris did not crack the top 20 of either forward position.

I think DeRozan may be getting underrated here.

Remember this is a projection of WARP ratings which factor in both offense and defense.

Butler is one of the best defensive guards in the league and still gives you 13+ ppg. At 24 years old it isn't a surprise that people are projecting a high rating for him.

Arbitrary metrics like this come with flaws. A glaring example of this is in their PF column where Josh Smith is rated higher than Lamarcus Aldridge.

So the point of mentioning this wasn't to give credit the WARP system itself but to notice how much people are really starting to expect from Dipo as an all around player. MCW and Trey Burke were honorable mention at the PG positions but only Dipo earned a top 10 spot from the past draft class...

He was in the "next five" section. A bit of a weird list because the Pistons have 2 guys in the top 5 (Drummond is #1).

I think the matchups vs Beal and Oladipo is going be a fun little rivalry at the 2. Same division, roughly the same age (I would have to look), same height. Beal gets the nod on shooting and offense but Oladipo gets it on defense Plus I like both of them ALOT, Beal (Gators), Oladipo (Magic). Hopefully we and Elfird get good soon, because Washington is a contender now and Wall is an all-star PG now. But if Elfrid can come close, Elfrid vs Wall and Beal vs Oladipo will be a lot of fun.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...
