Vegas sports book has Magic win total over under at 28.5

Thoughts?

Personally, I'm taking the under on this all day long. I certainly value what the folks in Vegas think (they do it for a living, after all), but I think that they're way too optimistic about this team.

After hearing hennigan on the radio this morning I would go with the under. Get ready for another tank of a season.

I take the over, afflalo was overrated, bbd sucked and jameer played no d. Frye supposedly adds 10 wins by himself according to advanced models.

I heard him on media day and got the opposite impression. Care to elaborate?

I hard most of the radio interview and didn't get that impression. Rob is preaching patience but it sounds like we're ready to TRY to win. Doesn't mean it's going to happen overnight.

My impression was we should expect "growth" but when specifically asked about the playoffs he wouldn't call that a goal. Bianchi pointed out the 8 seed was below .500 and he still wouldn't commit. He basically praised our coach for not trying to win.

Not saying I don't agree with his plan but I got the feeling the goal is to be in the lottery again.

Sounds reasonable. I don't think we are tanking but the team just isn't very good yet. We will probably end the season in the dreaded middle ground between making the Playoffs and landing a sweet draft pick.

Under

We should have some fun competitive games I don't expect a 30 win season at all. The east is getting slightly better (atleast from our perspective). The only team that is guaranteed to be below us is Philly and they will be the first to tell you that, the bottom tier teams from last year and this year should be the same. Besides us trading away 2 scoring threats and replaced them with 2 of the worse shooters in the draft (LOVE them both, wouldn't take anyone else altough i was high on Smart) I just dont see our wins jumping that much.

Well, in my completely non objective knee-jerk analysis... good job Vegas.

I think they nailed it.

I think we will be around low to mid 30s in wins. 32-50 doesn't sound too crazy to me at all. I would say we err from the Vegas prediction more so in the over than the under. I just don't see us winning only like 25 games this year unless we have a few injuries. We are deeper than people think, and I think our defense alone will keep us in a lot of games. I think Ben Gordon is going to play better than people expect, and he and Frye should space the floor a bit for Dipo to attack the rim often.

Yeah Afflalo wasn't that great in the second half but in the first half he was really god and he still had his moments in the second half. He still got us some wins. And yeah Jameer is slowing down but he was still a good veteran who gave us a somewhat steady floor general. If we end up going to Payton as our PG this year that could cost us some wins. So you have to still subtract what they gave to what Frye adds. And I don't think Frye is so much better to where he necessarily adds 10 more wins. Sorry but until this team proves it can win more this team isn't that much different than last years team. We shall see and I am not ruling out anything but this team has far more questions than answers right now. Potential is nice but it can turn out both bad and good and I do see plenty of future potential just not sure how much of that translates to next year.

I'm predicting a huge leap this season. Suns esque. We certainly have the talent to make that kind of jump, IMO.

In line with my predictions after the draft and offseason acquisitions, anywhere between 25 and 30 wins.

Looking up and down the list, I can see how every team has the stated number. Example NYKs at 40.5. Yes the team has no depth and is in disarray, but it will have a happy and healthy Anthony. NY is a legitimate 8th seed. Spot on.

As for the Magic, an awful lot would have to break their way for the team to get well above 30 wins, and an injury to a key player could cripple any hope of getting above 20. So 28.5 is in my opinion a very fair betting line.

I have to go with the OVER. As see a lot going in the correct direction, and a young team should be a healthy team. 33 wins.

edit: I love the UNDER for the Sixers at 15.5 wins. Carter-Williams is injured and the team still looks to struggle to be competent in the D-league. It is going to be ugly in Philly.

I'll take the over, as I think we will likely overachieve a bit and play hard every single night.

Longer term, we are still pretty much screwed though. I hope I am wrong, but Hennigan has left us no clear path to building a championship level roster.
