Predict number of wins after 28 games

Post#1 » by tooler » Wed Oct 22, 2014 1:35 am

The Magic have 19 of their first 28 games on the road. Traditionally it's difficult for young teams to win on the road. They were 4-37 away from home last season, although some of us believe they deliberately tanked a significant number of road games.

I've seen rumors that presumed starter Channing Frye could miss most of November. There are also a lot of new players on the team this season, and they'll need some time to get into a groove.

So after this killer schedule, how do you think the Magic will emerge?

Poll ends one week into the season.

I think they'll be about .500 at home, then match their road win total from last season in less than half the games. So call it about 9 wins.

They'll finish the rest of the season strong as the team starts to come together.

A lot of weird stuff happens in the first 15-20 games of the season... remember when we started 12-13 in our first year of tanking? The bobcats also had a similar hot start. Both teams finished with the worst records in the league. So while we have a really hard start to the season, don't rule out the possibility that we'll play better than expected as It takes a while for players/teams to normalize around the league. A young, athletic team like ours can take advantage of that.

Someone should tweet Frye and ask him.

28 games is a third of the season, so 10-18 would have us on schedule to be right around 30 wins. Which is probably right.

I am hoping that these young guys sneak a couple early upsets based on hustle before some teams get their rotations down. I'm hoping for 12-16.

I have always thought we would start strong and slowly start fading in January. There will be a small losing streak as a result of Frye altering the chemistry a bit, but we still end up at .500 after 28 games

14-14

This is an interesting point. But gosh, I hope we don't fade late in the season this time around! We're no longer tanking, we have useful complementary veterans now, our core ought to be stronger and more consistent, and we have plenty of depth if the rookies hit the wall.

14-14

if we're 14-14 through 28 with 19 games on the road, we're going to finish above .500 for the season. That would leave 32 games at home and 22 on the road.

I'll say 12-16, 5-4 at home, 7-12 on the road.

Rest of the season:

19-13 at home, 9-13 on the road.

Overall record: 40-42
Home: 24-17
Away: 16-25

(i recognize i'm one of the more optimistic viewers).

8-20

I'm not convinced that "tanking" and "not good enough to win" weren't simply the same thing last season.

Maybe we aren't tanking this season (if we truly ever were), but we're still not that talented/experienced yet, regardless.

Don't mind being wrong, of course. Rather us go 20-8.

Just to mention one prediction. I think we beat Miami.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.
