Favorite Elfrid pass, part 1

Post#1 » by tooler » Sun Nov 2, 2014 8:55 pm

Through Summer League, preseason, and the first three games. Click the image to get a direct link. I hope these load okay for everyone.

Let me know if I've missed any of your favorites. I'll try to do this again in a few weeks.

Give-and-go with Marble during Summer League. I loved the teamwork on this play.

The alley-oop to Oladip during Summer League. You know the one.
Image

Alley-oop to Aaron Gordon. Nothing special but I think this is their only clean alley oop so far together.
Image

Beautiful pass to Harkless on the move against Indiana.
Image

Pass to Marble for a corner 3. I'm still not sure how he anticipated this.

Butt pass to Tobias.

Making Dewayne "Dead Hands" Dedmon look good.

Dedmon alley-oop against the Ratpors.

Threading the needle with a bullet pass to Vucevic running to the rim against Washington.

Accidental 3-pointer. Well, you can't win them all. :)

I love the bullet pass to Vucevic, especially because the slight pan to the camera makes it look like the ball is curving past Paul Pierce's hand.

But I voted for the pass to Marble for 3. His vision and anticipation on that play is amazing. Look where Marble is when he decides to pass the ball.

I really like the summer league pick give-n-go but didn't vote for it because....it's summer league.

I really liked that Dedmon roll pass. He anticipates it because he keys in on the defender and sees both them, assuming Dedmon should be rolling so he makes the play. Luckily it works out.

Threading the needle to Vooch.

Live it looked like a very simple pass, and on replay looked like a very tough pass. Ultimately, it is a very simple pass (no bounce pass, no long alley-oop,) but it had such a narrow range for success (hence "thread the needle") and he just nailed it right on point.

I don't want to overreact to one play, but that play sort of epitomizes why I like Payton and why I'm high on him as our long-term floor general.

He is a very talented, natural passer. 38.8 assist rate through 3 games. That is already elite.

I didn't bother voting but I can't say I have ever seen a better passer, especially so early on in his career. He might be threading the needle but he doesn't seem to look at it as a risky pass.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.
