Channing Frye
Still dont understand why orlando paying $8M per for a guy like this. Cant defend anyone, slow for defense rotation, cant rebound. Why we gave up a young and better player in Ryan Anderson for this guy with almost the same $.
Too bad guy, we are stuck with him for the next 3 years. Dont think anyone else on the league wants him with that price

I don't think we need to read into it too much other than henny probably thought he was going to be more effective. I think a lot of folks liked what he did for the suns. I think henny was willing to overlook some of his defensive limitations to provide some spacing. I think he was also willing to overlook some of his defensive limitations since he had brought in other players who have a reputation for defense. just hasn't worked out that well. that stuff about being related to tobias hopefully was just a secondary consideration if that.

Sorry where did these two players get involved in the same transaction? We never gave up Ryno for Frye lol. **** happens, every ball club loses players with talent. Stop dwelling in the past.
Give Frye a chance. Don't forget with the disappointing development of Andrew Nicholson we had to get another big guy in.

Yeah this signing is not looking good now but I anticipate it won't look so bad once the cap goes up to 80 million like it's supposed to. His salary is more palatable now under the current cap because our best players are all on their rookie deals but I like how hennigan structured his deal to coincide with the time AAron Gordon is due for his extension, as no doubt management expects him to grow into the teams best player. Before he got injured we washould looking like the best rookie in the class and that might still be true.

If orlando didn't sign him, orlando will have enough $ to pay almost 2 max players next year. Now his salary will be full paid for the next 3 years. How Hennigan contruct ? Doesn't make any sense

If you would read what I said I said it would expire the same year Gordon is due for an extension. Clearly nO max free agents would sign with a 25 win team anyway so that's just stupid. Hennigan will either stick with this curent group or trade them for stars imo.

First blunder by Henny. I was so pissed when we signed him to that contract.

I'm not defending Frye's defense, but are you guys forgetting how terrible Anderson was at defense?
...he was killed every night on that end of the floor even w Dwight next to him and in SVG's great defensive system...he was and still is very soft on that end of the floor. Its why Bass started over him initially and a key reason why Otis went out and signed Glen Davis as Anderson was brutalized in the previous post season.

I disagree with the premise of this thread. It's dumb to say the signing "still" doesn't make sense, because a lot of us thought Frye would have a positive effect on our guards like he did in Phoenix. Without looking at the numbers, that doesn't seem to have happened on offense. So at this point not even the original theory for signing him holds any water.
Maybe they'll figure out how to use him better in the future.

Why aren't there a plethora of 3+D type PF's like there are wings...seems like a lot of teams are looking for that type of player but nearly all stretch 4's are soft defenders.
