Tom Thibodeau?

Post#1 » by Calcasian » Thu Jan 29, 2015 3:34 pm

Local papers in Chicago are reporting that there may be a mutual parting between the Bulls and Thibodeau this off season.

This is purely speculative and assuming we could have any free agent coach we desired, do you guys think he would be a good fit for our group?

Personally I think with the athleticism of our wings and guards he would turn us into a premier perimeter defensive team. I'm sure Vucevic would come a long ways defensively as well. Also the "edge" he possesses in his coaching style would be a nice change from Vaughn. However I would be slightly concerned he could wear on players if success did not follow in the first few seasons.

What do you all think?

(Sorry if this could be posted in another thread, didn't see anything relevant so I figured I would just start a new one)

Well, he seems like a tough guy and knows about defense. Bring him here.

instant erection. sorry guys. If Bulls are dumb enough to let Thibs go (won't believe it until I see it), RDV, Alex, Rob, Matt, & Scott better be at his doorstep 5 mins later.

Which papers exactly? I've heard some rumblings from NBA guys over the weeks, but nothing from Chi papers specifically. I'd love to read those articles. The big negative about Thibs is his heavy minutes distribution to the starters. Being a young team, I don't care, but he can learn from his mistake in Chicago and apply here, all the better.

If we're bringing him in as an assistant for our current head coach, sure.

It was in the Chicago Tribune this morning. Need a membership to read that article but I saw some quotes.

Above is another article that discusses it briefly. Seems to be most speculation at this point but it wouldn't surprise me considering Chicago's track record outing coaches.

Barring a big playoff push, the Bulls and coach Tom Thibodeau could be parting ways after the season, said Sun-Times Bulls beat writer Joe Cowley in an interview Wednesday with 670 The Score’s Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley.

“This thing behind the scenes is ugly right now,” Cowley said. “I don’t think it’s getting any better, and if you were to ask me right now, unless things change — and obviously we have to see what happens in the playoffs — I think the two sides will be parting ways at the end of this season. That’s just my opinion. I don’t see this relationship lasting too long.

I'll be cheering for a first round exit!!!

The man knows his ish, and if Chicago is silly enough to let him go then i would consider that the beginning of their demise. I do think he should let up some and handle his guys a little more like Pop does as far as rest, but he's one of the best out there. Hells yeah we would want him as fans and i would hope the FO would be interested.

NY & Chi won't fire their coaches after 1 year (though they should). THey'll want him as an assistant but not HC.

What other teams would be after him as head coach?

New Orleans - AD as franchise player is something to really consider
Denver - meh
Minnesota - Wiggins another player to want to consider.
MAYBE Cleveland?? - opening depends on playoff success.
MAYBE Oklahoma?? - opening depends on playoff success.
MAYBE Charlotte?? - would Steve get another year?
Sacramento - lol
Orlando -

Teams not interested:
Bos - newish coach in year 2 of 6 yr contract
Brooklyn - new coach
Knicks - new coach and specific system
Philly - lol he'd hurt their tank efforts
Tor - ehhhh maybe. they're doing well and just extended their coach
Dallas - no
Hou - no
Mem - no
Spurs - no
Det - new coach
Indy - new extension for Vogel (i think)
Por - no
Bucks - new coach
Utah - new coach
Hawks - no
GSW - new coach & winning
Clippers - no
Heat - no
Lakers - new coach
Suns - no
Wash - no

Tom Thibodeau?

Thibideau is one of the elite coaches in the NBA. If he's available you go after him. The Magic have to make a big splash this offseason to keep the fan base from completely jumping ship. Thibideau coming in to coach along with a top 5 pick and perhaps a name free agent would accomplish that.

Yeah if he is actually avialable, which is a big if, then yeah he would be a very good hire for us. Not sure we would be high on his list but who knows if we offer him a good contract. But I still question whether he will be available. I don't know why Chicago would fire him. They would be hard pressed to find a better coach. Yeah I guess if they don't have much playoff success then maybe but I think it would be a dumb move and I think if Rose is healthy they have a good shot to at least get to the Eastern Conference finals. I would love to have him but I am not going to pin my hopes on him actually coming here.

Thib's should be priority # 1. We have the defensive prospects that would only enhance his defensive approach.

Thibs would love our roster, AG/Payton/Oladipo on defense but he would run them into the ground.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this by someone, but IMO, he's exactly what we need. Probably the closest thing to Stan that we could get.

Chicago has some players that are talented on the defensive end, but I believe we have even more players (physically blessed) that Thibs could mold into defensive juggernauts:

Harkless (number one)
Harris (quick feet, hardworking mentality)
O'Quinn (over all size)
Vucevic (size)
Nicholson (long arms)
..and of course Oladipo, Gordon, and Payton who already have great defensive instincts.

Just my thoughts.
