Its not on Elf lmao. Elf was the entire reason we were winning in the first place. Its stupid to blame one person anyways but Vic has been ass tonight.

Yeah, we were in the game because of Elf. We also had numerous possessions where we came away with nothing because he missed 10 free throws. Maybe we didn't lose because of him but we definitely didn't get the win because of him.

if Payton had a jumpshot as good as Dipo (which isn't even great, just decent) he'd be pretty hard to stop. and then we could run a true shooting dynamo at the 2 spot and start burning teams from the perimeter.

Elf is really going to have to work. IMO his form needs to be changed.

This is going to get ugly before it gets better... Might be awhile before this team sees another victory...

Is Elfrid Payton Rajon Rondo 2.0?

Celtics basically just stopped guarding him for the last 5 mins of the game until he entered the paint and it was incredibly effective. Elf was unbelievably impressive when they were challenging him at the 3 point line, blowing past some excellent on ball defenders and finishing/dishing at will.

But it just fell apart when he got to the line and when they absolutely DARED him to shoot the ball.

Payton has been outstanding in his general play. Just hasn't hit free throws.
If you can't hit free throws in a close game you're a good reason why your team lost. The man went 4-15 from the line. No matter what else he did that kills a team.

yeah the schedule is kind of tough coming up

Maybe we should just have an official game thread for the rest of the season because many may stop posting if it gets realllll bad.

while you all are crying about how payton missed 4 more free throws than his yearly average, we're unbelievably lucky we're having a discussion about that part of his game and literally nothing else like jazz fans praying exum would ENTER THE PAINT after 50 games

Eh, decent tanking loss I guess. I don't mind losing to veterans that aren't part of the future of a young team, but it would have been nice for our young guys to play better. I figured our backcourt would have it rough (Oladipo's lowest FG% is against Boston) but didn't picture Elfrid going 4-15. Bring on the shooting coach!

If Dipo doesn't get that jumper right, he's going to look more like John Starks than Dwyane Wade.

the kid definitely needs to work on his FTs, and i suspect that he will. whether the game is on him or not, i think he'll put the blame on himself, because he's just that kind of guy.

so Elf missed 11 fts worth 11 points. Vuc missed 10 fgs worth 20 points. Dipo missed 9 fgs worth 18 points.

so ultimately, the game really isn't on Elf.

I think he as the desire to improve. I certainly hope so as I believe he is our one true potential star. I am over Dipo. He will be a bench player eventually. He has the heart and desire but I'm not sure he can improve much. Not explosive enough to be a good finisher and his jumper leaves a lot to be desired. This team needs to draft offense, offense, offense.

I figured this wouldn't be a problem until we're in the second round of the playoffs or something. But that's two young teams now that have really put the screws on him -- the 76ers fouling him intentionally, and now Boston playing way off him.

Like I always say, it still doesn't mean he needs a jump shot. Better layups, floaters, and free throws and he might've hit 30 tonight. But it does kill the spacing for everyone else.
