Marc Spears - Magic Sign CJ Watson (3 Years, 15 mil)

Post#1 » by Rick Rolled » Sat Jul 4, 2015 4:51 am

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 1m1 minute ago
Hearing Orlando, after signing and sealing @tobias31 Harris, are closing in on the addition of C.J. Watson to their backcourt.

Josh Robbins ‏@JoshuaBRobbins 6m6 minutes ago
The Magic are finalizing an agreement with unrestricted free agent point guard C.J. Watson, as @ESPNSteinLine has noted.

Marc J. Spears ‏@SpearsNBAYahoo 2m2 minutes ago
The Magic has agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with guard C.J. Watson, a source told Yahoo.

Figured we'd eventually need a separate thread for this.

Quality backup who can knock down some threes.

Was my first choice since the offseason started.

This would be such a good signing. Hopefully the $$ is good.

We have been trying to get this guy forever lmao. I approve the signing. Looks like Rob is really shoring up shooting.

I don't know when the last time we had a legit backup PG. Maybe Brian Shaw?

A very quality rotation player, huge upgrade over Green, Ridnour, and Ben Gordan.

Meer was technically the backup to Francis.

But you're right, Arroyo eventually backed up Meer.

White Chocolate had his moments....so did no-neck Johnson..... but during the rebuild, it's been fugly.

this is so long overdue, I was hoping he would end up with a serious contender so Im hoping things fall into place and we turn out to be that sleeper pick.

Yeah Arroyo wasn't bad. Or you could go back to Troy Hudson, or maybe Chucky Atkins.

After I typed that I thought about it. Knew it couldn't have been that long since we had a real backup PG.

Agreed, I'm wayyyy more excited about this than I should be, but CJ will be very solid on our second unit.

Second unit (some of these guys are potential starters...hard to say as of now)

Pg- Watson
Sg - Fournier
Sf - Hezojna? or if he's brought along slowly....Harkless?
Pf - AG? Frye?
C - Dedmon?

CJ would be a great get. Assuming Tobias and AG start and Mario comes of the bench at the beginning of the season, a 2nd unit of CJ, Evan, Mario, Dedmon, and either Frye or hopefully a new FA bigman sounds like a really solid bench and would be a huge upgrade over last season. Glad Hennigan is making moves, I was getting kind of worried there.

Watson is 31 yrs old. I'm guessing 3 yr deal for $4m/yr. Last year is non-guaranteed.

A small part of Tyler Harvey just died inside.

I doubt it. His time should eventually come.

I'm guessing he's happy to be in the NBA.

Keyon Dooling wasn't half bad as a backup.
