Aaron Gordon recovering from fractured jaw

Post#1 » by Nyce_1 » Fri Jul 17, 2015 8:31 pm

Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon underwent surgery Tuesday in California to repair a fractured jaw and is expected to return for the start of the regular season, according to team spokesman Joel Glass.

Glass said Gordon suffered the jaw injury when Gordon was visiting his family and was horsing around with his older brother, Drew, who appeared in nine games last season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The timetable for Aaron Gordon’s return to basketball-related activities will depend on how he responds to rehabilitation, Glass said.

The injury is a setback for Gordon, a 19-year-old combo forward.

Last year, Victor gets taken out by D.D. and now A.G. by his brother! What next?

What kind of "horsing" around was he doing to get his jaw broken by his brother? Sounds like a freak accident and he'll be back by the start of the season but this will put him behind yet again which is not good considering we'll be running a new system on both ends. Hope this kid is not made of glass when it comes to injuries.

How do you get a fractured jaw from horsing around?

I was skeptical of the etiology as well. Wouldn't be shocked if this was a typical brother-on-brother argument that escalated.

What type of "typical brother on brother argument" would escalate to blows? His brother's a big guy, an accidental elbow to the wrong spot while wrestling around can do a lot of damage. Doubt it was a malicious incident between the Brothers.

Stupid incident, but without the details hard to be harsh on him. Just sucks, he was improving so much. Having to take a step back off the court for even a few weeks is hugely detrimental to his offseason development. Hopefully he'll be back quickly to at least non contact type stuff.

I'm guessing he can't eat solid foods for a while. With his crazy metabolism he might lose a lot of weight and that's going to set him back even more than just missed time.

He's expected to recover by season start. He can still put up shots, I imagine.

That said...

What a dumb***

Never said "blows" nor am I trying to be harsh on them. Coming at it from a health care point of view, I'd be skeptical of "horseplay" causing a broken jaw. But you could be right too considering these guys are behemoths with more strength than the average person.
