Hype hype hype hype Tobias Harris with Magic (FS Sports) TV documentaries, Jersey pushes, and air time. Dump him for a "proven player"....Jennings/Ilyasova.
Hype Hype Hype VO in the Dunk Contest, Jersey Pushes, face of the Francise....dump like curb trash for a proven player.
Mo Harkless.....hype, hype, hype dump for actually a useless pick.
Aaron Gordon is next. Rinse, wash, and repeat boys. Don't get sucked in. They will dump AG.
I'm not going to argue that. That has been the Magic's way. Identify young talent, collect it via trade or the draft, create opportunity for growth, develop the talent, let them compete, identify players as core vs tradeable asset, surround core with complimentary veterans and move assets for flexibility, balancing, or strengthening the roster.
Rinse, wash, and repeat boys.
The problem is the opportunity cost of all the folks they have acquired is very high in that we are churning out dud ballers when quality higher-ceiling players were still available. Guys like Devin Booker, Myles Turner, and Trey Lyles were all available well, well after Hezonja. If we are true to the game of acquiring talent, developing, and either signing/dumping how do you explain not trading down to take studs like that vs. an unkown.
2014 draft was absolutely abysmal so Rob gets a semi-pass but if we truly are good at developing talent and building a young core again. Jokic, Nurkic, Clarkson, Hood are still around. All four of those players to this day have proven more than Aaron Gordon.
Speaking of opportunity cost, Gordon has been a victim of opportunity cost. By maxing out Tobias last year, Gordon again had to wait his turn for playing time. Those guys you listed all have had way more opportunity than Gordon has had. Even up to now, he's been playing strictly small ball PF. Now that Tobias is gone and Dipo is gone (Fournier can slide over to SG) and no SF like Parsons or Barnes was brought in via FA and no draft pick like Prince or Valentine were taken, so Gordon for the first time has a clear shot at earning BIG time consistent minutes in the role he has the most potential at dominating and the coach has come out and said he wants him to do it.
I'm JACKED!
