Wiretap: Ewing Wants To Interview With Walsh

Post#1 » by Devin 1L » Sun Apr 27, 2008 1:51 pm

Knick legend Patrick Ewing is 'bothered' by the lack of contact from new team executive Donnie Walsh, according to the New York Daily News.

He is looking for Walsh to bring him in for an interview involving the team's head coaching vacancy.

"No, no one's contacted me....It did (bother me), but I guess that's life," Ewing said during an interview with TNT. "I'm in a great situation here in Orlando working (as an assistant coach) with (Dwight Howard). If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. But yes, it did bother me."

"Obviously I played in New York, I know the area, I know the team, I know the fans, I know everybody," he added. "I know the media. So naturally I would love to interview."

Good I'd Rather have Clifford Ray or lets get a free throw shooting coach instead. Every other team is getting one.

OH LOL PS: Toronto fans couldn't get home after the game last night because all the train and subways were down muahahaha. I think its karma for when the said superman sucks

are you high?

Clifford Ray over Patrick Ewing? have you not noticed a slight improvement in Dwight's game since Patrick arrived? I know it's minimal, but.........

Hopefully we won't lose Pat this year. Despite not being contacted by Walsh, I wouldn't doubt that whomever gets the head coaching position will likely contact Pat about an asst position up there.

Ewing suggested that if he wasn't offered a head coaching position that he was happy to continue to coach Dwight. If he's going to be an assistant coach, how can he do better? Dwight is making him look like a genius.

I personally don't believe that Walsh is going to take a chance on a head coach for the future, he really has a tough choice here. There will be a lot of pressure on the new coach and while guys like Jackson and Ewing might be smart well rounded guys, he needs to put in as close to a "sure thing" as he can...

I don't know. He's already said the plan is to be under the cap by 2010, so I would imagine that would mean no pressure at all until that season.

right...but are you going to hire a project coach now and hope everything comes together by 2010, hire a temporary coach and get a get coach after you have the talent or hire a good coach now and start there?

I read somewhere that if he were to hire Jackson (a project coach for sure), he would pretty much learn on the job until 2010. So yeah, I think that seems to be the expectation. Pretty much the same blueprint as what we did with Doc back in 1999.

Believe it or not, but I'm actually not really mad about it.

Now, had he been our head coach and saying stuff like this, I'd be pissed. Even if his contract was ending this season.

That crap Larry Brown pulled was unacceptable, in my opinion.

With Ewing just being an assistant coach though, it doesn't really bother me. I hate to sound as if I'm talking down to the position (it's a big accomplishment for anyone), but he's just one of our assistant coaches. He's not really calling the shots out there like Van Gundy. Frankly, if he up and disappeared tomorrow, there would probably be only a minimal effect, as opposed to Stan leaving.

So, with the expectation that assistant coaches are looking for a head coaching gig, the opening in New York, his history, etc. I just don't really mind, but I certainly wouldn't fault anyone who does.

No, I understand all that. I can't even figure out why exactly is it that I don't like it. I think it's just all this public begging for it. Even SVG went to the reporters to vouch for him. I mean, if you want an interview, have your agent call the guy and see if he can set it up. If yes, great, go interview when he's not working with us, if not, let it go.
