Bring on Detroit!

Post#1 » by The Favero » Tue Apr 29, 2008 11:43 am

Let's get past all this nonsense of hoping Philly beats Detroit so we can have an "easier" series. If we want respect, let's get it by defeating the team that has eliminated us from the playoffs the previous two times we've made it. On a national scale, it would say a lot more if be beat Detroit than if we beat Philly. Then after Detroit bring on the Celtics. That would be a hell of a series, one that I (call me a dreamer) think we could win.

Go Magic!

I think if we have a chance to beat Detroit in a playoff series, that's right know! They will be more tired because of Philly, and our point guard performance looks like much better by Nelson, than in the regular season.
Maybe the biggest questions:
1. How will we play defence against them?
2. Can we outscore them from the 3p line? So we need a better 3p performance than yesterday's game.

I'd rather have Philly than Detroit just looking at the recent past. Yes I feel like the Magic can beat MoTown but let's face it: they still have our number.
Anyway, Philly ain't no pushover these days...

do they know who dwight howard is?

they dont seem to respect ihm that much...well that works out our advantage if we fly under the radar..we'll probably win the 2nd and if we probably do...then we will start getting some notice..

I am a bit scared. Bad matchups with Detroit.
"And with Dwight, he's Moses Malone at 22, Shaq at 22 and Tim Duncan.

I like how everyone hates on Nelson because he shoots the ball way to much. But lets be honest here Nelson is a much more effective PG when he shoots rather than passes. When Nelson has his shot on, the whole team clicks. I could care less how many ast. he has. Turk and Lewis seem to average 5 and Nelson could easily get 5 a game as well. Everybody for some reason wants Nelson to average 15 ast or something.
Do you realize how many OPEN layups Nelson could have but at the very last minute he kicks the ball out. And when that happens its either a 3pointer or a turnover leading to an easy 2 the other way.

Still not confident to play Detroit, but you're right, it would be more satisfying to beat the best. But its not up to us.

Honestly I'm not even looking to win the series against Detroit. All I would be looking for is fighting hard for 7 games. I think that would be a bigger learning experience than a series win even.

Call me crazy, but how would it be a better learning experience to go 7 and lose then to go seven and win?

I think you would see Lewis out there defending Rasheed. Lewis would be more apt to cancel him out.

Billups is my worry. He always has great games on us. We ned to have Bogans and others shutting him off.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

I guess I didn't phrase that right. I meant it would be a great learning experience to go down to 7 with Detroit seeing as how they own us at times than playing the Raptors was. Obviously your right wining> losing, anyday. But I don't want to get my hopes up that high yet.

Objectively I guess you still say Detroit would be favored in seven. BUT, after watching Dwight go Wilt on that A**, I say we win that match-up in 6! Again, we have the + with our front court (you can say that against ANY team right now), and the back court will be the big X factor. I fully expect Nelson to get his, so it will be about what Mogans brings to the table. Can those two get their points and contain Hampton to under 20 a game? Bring it on!
