CBS: Superman Howard ready to leap tall buildings in Beijing

Howard probably will be bringing along the Superman cape that he wore when he won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest earlier this year, cementing his role as the best, most popular big man in the league today.

As the only true center on the USA Basketball 12-man roster -- and the one who missed the earlier minicamp recovering from a fractured sternum -- Howard is going to need all the special powers he can muster.

I'm guessing he's there on assignment and a news service published the piece that CBS picked up.

Or he could be writing for CBS.

I still dont like the fact he's the only true center out there - I'd like some "garanteed" relief for him - dont want him worn out.

he's the only guaranteed center, but let's be realistic. We could play a lot of players at center and get by because of the way european big men play.

We can't really take a lot of traditional big men like Dwight out there and expect them to do great.

he should play no more than 30 min a game in the style the other teams play. James could play center if need be in the olympics

There's no question we will be ok at center but it would have been better if Amare wouldn't have opted not to play.

but they did say that Chris Bosh was going as a backup. He is not a traditional center but he could probably do a good matchup against the eruopean players if howard is having difficulty. Besides a frontcourt of L. James, Boozer, and Bosh might be a better run is some instances.

As far as I am concerned Dwight Howard is only needed to combat the Yao Mings of the world.

USA best Center Vs. China best center. Oh man that will be such a great game to watch!

Dwights size and strength will overmatch the euros, he will do fine.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.
