Wow, he was only 44. My thoughts are with his family.

wow, pretty sad...my uncle was a big duck fan back in the day...sad reality is though, duck was never really in shape...I saw him on NBATv not long ago and he was massive...wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a heart attack that did it...

Yeah, Duck was around the 400-pound range, and on a 7-foot man it just doesn't look too good. He's getting a lot of love in his time in passing from around the NBA, though.

as he should, he was a really good player back in his prime and he did a quality job for the Blazers while he was with them and he was a real class act, a true humanitarian...the guy probably has thousands of stories out there about things he has done for people and organizations with his kindness and generosity...

I'm rather surprised to see reaction on some of the boards. Portland fans will tell you they couldn't have done it without Duck, and he was a major presence in community service in the Portland area. Others are remembering him for his basketball skills. If it's possible to be underrated until death, Duckworth has done it.

It hurts a little for some Portland fans that he died in a small town on the Oregon coast, where he was conducting a basketball camp.

His name was one of the first I knew amongst the NBA players in late 80's and early 90's. Polish TV showed only one game a week and Blazers were one of the most popular teams. Memories... RIP, big dude.

Don't know why ... he seemed like he'd be very likable.
