OT: Orlando pre-draft camp bites the dust

Post#1 » by Devin 1L » Fri Nov 14, 2008 4:11 am

I just confirmed a story, originally reported by The Sporting News, that the NBA pre-draft camp is no more as we knew it.

There will no longer be games or practices for draft candidates. Mass physicals will still take place, and those physicals will likely move back to Chicago from suburban Orlando, where the camp was held the past two years at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

Is the Pre-Draft camp the Summer League Games?

I understand that he did. I was just curious to see if the Pre Draft camp and the summer league games were one in the same.

There were two different events.

The pre-draft camp stop making sense when agents requested their top players not play.

NOOO. I loved Orlando being the center of basketball talk for a couple days.

I agree with Orange that it was nice to have Orlando be the center of so much NBA talk. The camp is biting the dust not because Orlando didn't do a good job, but because NBA has no idea how to fix the pre draft process. They keep tweaking the dates of private workouts and the number of teams that can be at one workout, but its not working.

IMO, the NBA should require every domestic draft entrant to play in the pre-draft camp in order for that player to be able to conduct private workouts. This would make the camp much more valuable for GM's in general and would also reduce the number of situations with teams drafting players they never saw workout based on fear that they'll miss out on a great player. Also, the NBA should open it up to the public or at least stream it live (I think last year NBA TV had coverage, but that's not mainstream enough).

City loses a bit of revenue, that sucks. Not our fault though as Wilbon was always having fun broadcasting PTI from the Convention Center.

Sorry. I thought the logical deduction could be made.

Keep in mind I barely understand a lot of the stuff that happens during the regular season so for me to have put this together would have been a miracle. It is my fault for not looking it up and being lazy.
