Re: Orlando @ Indiana Game Thread
Somewhere along the lines we seem to have become a good 4th-quarter defensive team. I love that.
And neither of the two big blocks at the end of the 4th and OT were fouls, and neither was the block on Granger's short jumper along the baseline. I don't remember the other two.

He definitely needs to pump fake more.
But at least he made most of his free throws for once or this game would have ended up a win for the Pacers.

Oh my god the Pacers had 15 offensive rebounds the Magic 5. No wonder the Pacers stayed in the game so long.

Funny thing is that it was an emphatic dunk that was hard to miss. Stat people are terrible.

Hedo Turkoglu, SF 41 1-13 0-7 1-2 0 3 2 2 0 4 3 3
Here's why: Every time Hedo had the ball in his hands, they double teamed him. They didnt even let him make assists.
This made life for Dwight and Rashard relatively easier.
Rashard was absolutely outstanding in the 4th and OT.
Except for that doesn't cut it because when he had open shots he was still missing. If he was double teamed that often then he shouldn't have shot the ball when .... And when he did pickup his dribble his passes were less then crisp leading to those turnovers.
So your saying everyone else was open so why did he try to shoot over the double teams did you miss the stat where he was 1-13.
You have a good point here. He shouldn't have shot that much. Probably half of his shots were heavily contested.
When he first got the possession, they double teamed hoping to steal/block pass. When he gets out of this, they successfully closed penetration lines. Using his usual penetration style, when his penetration is halted half way, he has to pass or shoot to avoid TO.
He had a bad game and awful shooting, just not as bad as the box score suggests.

Standings look good.
9-3 overall and 4-1 away
9-1 in last 10.
Now, many could argue our schedule so far was easy. And we are going to face a tough December.
But thinking last year; we did very well against top teams and dropped many games to sub-.500 teams.

Just shows how much weapons we have on this team. When one of our best scorers is having an off night we have other guys to pick up the slack. We have a sick starting 5 this year with the addition of Pietrus and a much improved Nelson continuing his performance from the playoffs last year, just wish we had a better bench but I really think we need to get CLee and Redick more time, and even Gortat. Right now our bench rotation is a mess, no one really has a real role besides Johnson and Battie, everyone else has been shakey. It's still very early in the season so hopefully as the season moves on we'll start seeing a more organized bench.

Re: Orlando @ Indiana Game Thread
The thing I feel best about is we are winning games, when it seems like we might lose em. That's the difference I think between this years team and last years team. We let games slip away late last year. This year we keep fighting, it wasn't an ugly game as some have suggested. We were making shots, Indiana just played tough defense on us.
Jameer 22 pts, 9 asts? Wow if he keeps playing like this, we're in for a good season. I'm glad to see we can still win when 1 of our main guys is struggling. We've won with Dwight struggling a couple games ago, we've won with Rashard struggling and we won tonight with Hedo struggling.

I was at the game tonight, it was a good game despite the Magic sucking for the better part of the first 3 quarters. Jameer and Dwight were monsters tonight. Shard came alive late as well. Tough night for Hedo. He seemed out of it early on. His shot never recovered and he was clearly forcing it, but he did defend well and did some nice things late in the game. Hedo just needs to slow down and let the game come to him. Here is hoping we don't see a repeat performance.
Hedo played 41 minutes tonight because of his defense and because there is no one on our bench that would have done any better. You have to take your hats off to how well Indy (Granger and Rush specifically) defended the pick and roll. They did a very nice job on Hedo.
Indy let Orlando hang around all night and eventually we turned the switch and stole the game. I will take it, but we have to get more consistant early.

All road wins are good wins. In particular, that all players covered Hedo's absence was the key. That said, the Magic actually needed Hedo's 3 points in 41 minutes played. The difference in the game right there

This was a great game. As hard as it was, I never thought the Magic would lose. Jameer and Dwight had both firmly decided on a W. I hope this game convinced Dwight of how right the coaches are about his defense being most important for the win. We had one of our "big three" totally unable to score and another in foul trouble, a third starter unable to locate the line, and we still won. This has become a tough, determined team.

It is nice to be one of those teams that steals games. Our defense allows us to stay in games even if we aren't playing that well. And then once we find the hot hand, we end up stealing the victory. Last night it was Rashard FTW.
