Our Bench Rotation

Post#1 » by DiplomaticMagic » Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:35 pm

I hate when Stan uses a 7-8 man rotation and our bench has been bad so far but I think some players are just not being played.

First off AJ should never play I used to think he was going to be a great back-up because he was good with Hawks and had a great pre-season but hes been terrible. So C-Lee should play PG. It seems like hes a good ball handler & passer and when hes on court hes never looking to shoot so it shouldnt hurt plus hes quick and big to guard pgs.

Secondly as much as I hate Bogans hes been good off the bench JJ needs mins to so they should split time and even move Bogans to the 3 sometimes. And JJ is the only player on the bench that can provide an offensive spark. And I was very pleased with his play vs Raptors.

As far as the bigs go, Battie should stay being first big off bench but Gortat should see some time at least 8-10 mins a game. He seems to bring energy off the bench and is a good shot-blocker and rebounder and his offense isnt bad eithier. He just needs some experience.

So a bench rotation of...
Clee
Redick
Bogans
Battie
Gortat

Anybody agree? Its still not a sexy bench but its a lot better than it is now and is solid as Redick can be a offensive spark. Gortat & Lee bring hustle, defense, and energy. While Battie and Bogans help anchor the defense.

Don't agree.

I think AJ and Lee should split the minutes that AJ gets. I don't think it's a good idea that Lee is thrown into the spot (PG) without an appreciable experience at this level.

From that you see if he can handle the spot, and then adjust minutes accordingly.

Move Dwight to the bench. In his career off the bench, he averages 23ppg in 23mpg.

We really only have one option ... we need to petition the league to shorten the game to 20 minutes. Problem solved.

I'd like to see Lee get some burn at point guard as a test run, and if he does well AJ can hit the bench for good. I think a 10 man rotation is a bit much.

My rotation would be:

Bogans and Battie as the 1st small and big off the bench.
Lee/AJ as the backup PG (depending on if Lee can handle it and matchups)
Redick/ Lee getting spot minutes depening on matchups
\With Gortat playing in foul trouble situations.

Hmm, I think I'm back to being a Redick homer. Sooooo, I say that the first guard off the bench should be based on match ups. Like tomorrow it should be JJ since the Pacers don't really have an offensive threat at the 2 (is Graham for real?). Then, I want to see AJ phased out and Lee get his minutes. Then, well, leave everything else the way it is.

The Magic have the highest scoring starters in the NBA. The O-Sen runs a story today about this. Why? Because the bench is not used.

my only concern with the small rotation is fatigue down the stretch. I would say give JJ a few more minutes, even if it's just taking minutes away from Bogans (i think JJ's earned at least some minutes), give C-Lee SOME time at PG, see how he does. AJ runs the offense ok, but his defense is horrendous against speedy guards. He gets beat so easily and we're left scrambling.

I think the big man rotation is perfect the way it is.

Mine is how the team will deal with a long-term injury to a starter.

SVG has shown what and how he likes to involve the bench.

I wonder how he would do things if the bench was of a higher or more productive quality.

Well, it looks like Stan played it right. Now that we are on a roll, he is playing a deeper bench. Stan=Genius

one thing we cant do is play brian **** cook

i dont know what got into SVGs head that he suddenly thought giving big mins to brian cook was a good idea... this better have been to showcase him, though i think any mins he gets further lowers his value, so im not even sure doing that is the right idea

Our starting 5 can hang with the best in the NBA, but we will not win a title or seriously contend unless our bench is much improved.

It will be interesting to see if Cook plays again against the Rockets after looking pretty bad in his chance against the pacers.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I don't like Cook at all, but everyone needs to play more than once a month imo.
