OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
Apparently because of the trade the head coach of the Knicks found time for Marbury to play. I guess that happened because they traded Collins. Instead of saying great coach Marbury refused.
So how many here really want Marbury to play for the Magic?? He really does sound like a head case to me.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
It still baffles me that the overwhelming majority of those who responded to that Marbury thread a few weeks ago thought it would be a good move to trade for him. I was very surprised.
Actually, I wasn't. That's the sort of thing that happens when the Magic lose more than one game in a row.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
Why would he play? Seriously? Marbury is no saint but after what D'Antoni did to him do you really think he wants anything to do with him? D'Antoni banished the dude with no reason or warning, then when he gets stuck in a jam and only has 7 players and needed Marbury to dress hes supposed to jump for joy?
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

Last time I checked that Marbury is still recieving fat pay checks from Knicks. Play for the team is the reason he get paid.

You all can say what you want about him, but to be perfectly honest, he is and has been for quite some time... their best player. D'Antoni told the dude that he wasn't going to get a chance to play all year long and then has the audacity to ask Marbury if he'd like to play simply because D'Antoni doesn't have enough bodies?
Come on.
Yes, Stephon is getting paid but that is just a slap in the face. Have some damn dignity. Good for Marbury.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
I do not blame Marbury. If Iwas in his shoes I would probably be hesitant about playing as well. No reason to tell someone "you not playing because you dont fit our needs" and then when you are short on players then expect the player you just dissed to help out.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
srsly.
i'm not a huge fan of marbury--i'd gladly take him over anthony johnson, though--but you'd have to have a pretty odd definition of "headcase" to call him one after getting jerked around the way he has.

D'antoni is lying. Watch NBA TV Gametime, Marbury said he was told he was not going to be a part of the team. I believe Marbury, he looked very upset and sad.
I don't think they offered him the minutes.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
In this situation, there is a fine line between being a professional as to why he should or should not honor his commitments, (the supervisor that expects his employee to), and one that is just a greedy malcontent....but when management has continually put the employee in a demeaning situation, one has to look at both sides regardless of the history there.
On one hand, Marbury is being paid a ton of money to do as asked.
On the other hand, he has been treated poorly......kind of like the way that I saw at the USDA in Washington DC treat some GS-15's that they no longer had use for.
The GS-15's were to have no active role after a changeover in administrations, so the uppers decided to move those that were no longer wanted by placing their desks in hallways. Eventually, the handful of career employees left rather than face daily humiliation.
Marbury is being similarly treated (but I am not defending his history). He should get a chance with the new regime......jmo. There is no reason to ever intentionally humiliate anyone.
That's just crass.

Re: OT: Marbury Refuses Chance To Play
Im astonished @ the Marbury hate on here. It seems like people WANT to hate the guy for no apperent reason.... I mean, is it the cool thing to do or sumin? Honestly, I would gladly take the dude on our team over AJ. He would be a solid 1-2 off the bench and closer @ SG position if we need, but we all know that he is not a 'character' guy so the chances of seeing him around these parts are slim-to-none.
It's funny how management and front-office types always look out for their best interests @ the players' expense and ppl say nothing, yet when a player looks out for his interests and whats best for him @ the organizations he gets flamed by the fans..... I mean its a two way relationship. They treat you like ****, then they should get **** back.
So props to Steph for doing what he did. He was doing well in pre-season and even said that he would embrace a bench role to make it work if that's what was needed from him..... then all of a sudden they bench him for no reason whe the seaso rolls around and throw him under the bus? And now they want him to play when they're desperate for a go-to-player? lmao. If I was Steph I would laugh in their face. He's just chillin and getting paid now, and he's laughing @ them all the way to the bank. The Knicks **** it up, not Steph. Steph would do anything for that town, and the lack of respect he gets from that organization is a joke. Go Steph!

Well, they're doing surprisingly well without their "best player". Marbury is numbers. Empty numbers.
He's also a nut-job, and I, like MagicMadness, was baffled by all of the responses suggesting we bring him in. Had he been with the Magic all along, he'd probably be one of the most disliked Magic players of all time by the very same people on this forum who want him.
The grass is always greener...

well if marbs truly wants to win at this poin of his career..he can put his psychotic comments to the side like artest and just play the darn game....he'd be an upgrade for us for sure...this is a big IF (his brain remains healthy)..we know his body is in good shape according to the workout video he has out now haha

He says he wants to play, but he took himself out of the lineup last year to have some surgery that he admits didn't need to be done right away.
Right now he may be in great shape, but how is his game. If he had played he could have shown other teams that he was ready to play now instead they are going to wonder how long it will take to get him into the flow.
Yes he may have been treated badly, but remembering how he has behaved why is that a surprise. He is still getting paid a lot of money and the only person he hurt was himself.
No this not the kind of person that the Magic need.

Even though his skill set may be an upgrade to AJ, Marbury would make every single player on this team worse by disrupting our chemistry and camaraderie. No thanks.

the same thing could be said for rasheed wallace. He is an upgrade to Brian Cook and is very much the type of PF the magic couild use but he would disrupt the chemistry in the locker room. but people on here keep saying we need him here just like marbury. I personally would like to see marbury come to orlando.

Hasn't pretty much every teammate that he has had talked about how he is such a great teammate?
On a side-note, I never really followed all the comparisons being made between the Iverson and Wallace deal. Everyone was talking about "Oh, the last time Dumars made a controversial move..." I don't/didn't buy it at all. The moves were really nothing alike, in my opinion. Wallace is a very good defender and one of the most consistently underrated players in the league, where as Iverson is not a good defender (don't pull SPG out on me, I don't care), and is probably one of the most overrated players in the league. Not to mention, they gave up beans for Wallace, and gave up one of the best point guards in the league for Iverson.
