Why did we let go of Dooling

Post#1 » by Pancho_Pantera » Sat Nov 29, 2008 2:01 am

We need offensive production from the guard positions(off the bench) and Dooling would have fit that role perfectly. Anthony Johnson is nice, but I wouldn't count on him at all. Plus adding one more Big man that can rebound will make us awesome. Hopefully we find these players in the draft.

Answer........CASH.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

We wanted to re-sign Ninja, but he just got a better offer elsewhere.

yup. it's all about the benjamins baby.

To steal a line, Keyon said, "f*** them Lincolns, I want Franklins."

Keyon right now would be the perfect fit for this team.

We have our starter in Jameer.

We have our veteran in AJ.

Then we would have our energy guy in Dooling.

Shame that these "players" cost this thing called "money".

i think orlando kind of lowballed him anyways to save some luxury-cap cash because we've got a ton of cashed tied down to our starters.

i like dooling and all, but i wouldn't over-pay for him either.

He wouldnt have helped our problem out much, hes a 2 gaurd. He makes Jameer Nelson look like a pure point gaurd. Had we resigned him our glut of SGs would just be bigger, Redick would still be whining about getting no mins, and everyone on this forum would be asking why Lee isnt getting any mins.

What Otis Smith should be kicking himself over is that he didnt buy an early 2nd round pick and take Chalmers. He claims he likes defense in his PGs, and you arent going to do much better than Chalmers as far as that goes.
You know the boy posts on realgm. The boy definitly posts on realgm.

Because for what he was he was quite expensive.

He's not really a PG, and while can fill that roll really you should be looking to sort out a proper PG, I dont like how we waited for injuries to happen to get moving on it, but end of the day we didnt let Dooling go for nothing, we got a TPE that could/should help us get a proper back up PG [along with AJ].

Its not really why did we let Dooling go, its why didnt we get a backup when Wilks went down tbh.

Yes money was the main reason.

But inside the Magic war-room, the report was that GM Smith wanted Nelson to dig deeper by feeling like there was no safety net. No safety net means a big fall, and a painful landing. So...

Nelson has played well. Letting Dooling go might be part of Nelson's early successes.

My words are not an opinion as to if I thought it was a good idea. Simply stating that this was what the Magic brass spun for the media.
