Rumor Via EB Sports
So there is a guy on EBSports who has been pretty solid with his inside sources in the past, and he said months ago that he heard the Magic were in talks with OKC for one of their bigs. He just posted an update today and said that Otis had a deal in place before this rash of injuries caused him to put it on hold, but once the roster recovers, the deal should go through. He said JJ and Cook are the outgoing, and the incoming is either Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox, or Nick Collison (he said he wasn't sure which one). You couple that with the various reports that OKC has essentially told Joe Smith thanks for being a solid guy, we'll get you to a winning situation soon, and it looks like a deal of JJ/Cook for Joe Smith is at least a possibility.
I remember a long thread about him a while back, but since the search feature is so stellar on this site, I figured I'd post this and ask y'all's opinions on Joe Smith. I really know nothing of his game. Is this a decent deal?

well if this happens I'm all for it.. I was the one of the original ones who suggested Joe Smith and everyone seemed to be open to the idea, Joe Smith would solidify us and allow us to expand our bench more..

A trade of JJ and Cook for any of those bigs is a good deal for the Magic. We need more height and rebounding coming off the bench to go far in the playoffs.

It's also worth noting that, of the three, only Joe Smith is expiring. If there are concerns about resigning Hedo, a deal like this would certainly help.
Plus, Smith is a legit veteran big man who could help us out come Playoff time.
Of the three though, from a non-salary perspective, I'd most like to have Collison.

Wilcox is expiring too.. If I'm not mistaking.. Joe Smith seems like the type of player we would go after though.. A professional guy with a lot of character.. But I wouldn't be upset with either of the 3 if has fruition to it..

I REALLY like this trade. Clears the logjam at SG, gives us another veteran big, and clears cap.
I hope this happens sooner than later so that Joe Smith and Battie can start building some chemistry as our backup bigs.

I would definitely prefer Collison, but I don't know if they consider him part of their core. He's young enough to stick around and be their 5 while Durant, Green, and Westbrook develop. Wilcox is young enough, too, but they seem pretty intent on Jeff Green at the 4, so Wilcox doesn't fit.
What is Joe Smith's game like?

This trade would solve our front court issues, but we would still need another PG.

Marc Stein predicts Joe Smiths going to be traded soon..
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=23884
Doesn't say where or if anythings imminent.. but.. with that in mind it could be very true of the rumor, everything starts showing up at once..
Joe Smith (OKC): Get me out of here! Will someone trade for me or should I expect a buyout? Who'd be in the running to get me?
SportsNation Marc Stein: Don't know where yet, but you will be traded, Mr. Smith. Feel pretty good about that prediction.

I wonder if we could get Memphis to give us either Lowry or Crittenton for Fran, TPE, and a future 1st?
Boy, that'd solve some problems.

Fran and a 1st is too much for Critt IMO.

Well, whoever. If Otis can use our junk pieces to get a good back-up big and a young PG, while keeping at least 1 draft pick, he'd be doing very well.

It would be great if that happened. This would = CLee PT. But I would kinda like to see something that would get us a third PG, cause Tony Battie has been playing pretty well. Don't get me wrong I would be really happy if this happened, but we need a third PG

Re: Rumor Via EB Sports
Getting Joe Smith would be great, and them getting JJ would be good as well. They really need an :cough: efficient scorer like JJ. I mean, that is still him M.O., right? Collison would be the best just because I think he's more of a long term option at the 4. To bad Gortat is not working out...

If this went down it would be at least 4 weeks, and this thread will be about 30 pages.

You're right. My mistake.
Looking at Hoopshype, it shows both Smith and Wilcox expiring, and Collison with two more years after this season.

exciting news... if this goes down, i predict that we will resign hedo in the offseason, and use the MLE to sign wilcox once he expires. It looks like we are serious about contending this year.
