Big 2? Big 3? Big 4?

Post#1 » by magicmamma » Sun Dec 21, 2008 3:45 pm

Jameer now has the same ppg as Hedo.

Dwight 20.7 ppg, 14 rb, 1.4 apg
Rashard 19.3 ppg, 6.3 rb, 2.2 apg
Hedo 16.8 ppg, 5.0 rb, 4.4 apg
Jameer 16.8 ppg, 3.5 rb, 5.3 apg

Do we now have a big 2 with a "pretty big" 2 right behind them?
Has Jameer replaced Hedo in the big 3?
Do we have a big 4?

I think it's a big 4, which seems to be what Otis had in mind.

Good point. Nelson has stepped his game up to an all star level. Hedo and Lewis have shown that talent before, and Howard is a super star. So yeah, I'd say he joins the threesome and makes it an awkward foursome.

I hadnt really thought about it untill last night but realistically jameer has a shot to be an All Star if he can continue this. I remember last yr Meer said he wanted to be an All Star and 95% of the board laughed at him. The top teams always manage 2-3 All Stars itll be interesting to see if we can get Dwight / Lew / Meer in there.

As for the question Id call it a big 4. You literally have to guard all 4 of them or the guy not being locked down is gonna light you up. Last year Meer wasnt as aggressive getting his own and attacking the hoop so teams didnt have to pay so much attention to him. Now if they dont he lights em up for 13-15 in a qtr.

It's the Big 3.

Jameer leads the trio of himself, Dwight, and 'Shard.

Hedo's been garbage this year offensively. There's nothing "BIG" about his game right now.

Everybody needs to vote for Meer in the allstar game.... it's ridiculous that Luke Ridinour is ahead of him in votes

I don't think it's fair to say Hedo has been "garbage" offensively. He's shooting badly, yes, but still does other things pretty well. He also draws defensive attention which benefits everyone. He's snakebitten shooting right now and I think it's gotten into his head. He took the right approach last night in stepping back a bit, picking his spots to shoot, setting up teammates, and doing a little bit of everything. He's been through this before and always pulls himself out, so I wouldn't discount him as a major cog in the machine just as I wouldn't assume Jameer will continue to shoot at the same torrid pace.

The Magic have an easily noticed good starting five. But over the minor injury bug, the bench proved themselves as well :)

i was furious last night when Cook basically gave the Lakers 8 straight points (and an 8 point lead) to start the 2nd quarter and Van Gundy left him in there after the timeout. I couldn't believe it. Cook is alright when he's ok, but he's dreadful when he's not, and he's not more than he is.

JJ >>>>>>>>>>>> Cook.

On a side note. Lewis is still number 2. Throughout all of this he is still quietly putting away his near 20 ppg playing out of position. Also in my opinion his defense has stepped up and although he isn't elite he really has shown us he can be above average when the need calls for it.

I'm not sure why we'd need to label them 'big three' or 'big four' or whatever. When you compare our three, four core players with that of other teams, I think we have just one legit superstar in Dwight. Rashard, Hedo and Jameer are all borderline All-Stars, but I don't think I'd like to label them 'big'. The Pistons from the past few years that won a championship had a pretty deep team too, but nobody ever called them the big 5 as far as I can tell.

good point Dome. I like what you said about Rashard, Hedo, and Jameer not calling them Role Players but All-Star Potential. Good way of putting that. Obviously Dwight is the only superstar here but still a very deep team when we can be. I would like to see this team be a copy of the pistons going to ECF 6 times in a row except I would want to see more then one ring out of it though.

Yep, one superstar, one all-star, and two border line guys. I've got the order of importance as Dwight, Shard, Jameer, and Hedo myself. I'm sure everyone else has a different order, but Hedo is the one we can best afford to give up of the core imo. Its a solid group though, and Jameer is finally living up to his potential where many of us thought he was capable of, It just shows us that he can handle the pg duties and diminishes the arguments of how much we actually need Hedo. Let Jameer keep taking on more responsibility and we should continue to get better.
