so here is what it says on the wire about Otis and the Joe Smith rumors. I cannot tell if this is one of his ways of saying we are not interested for sure or if he is putting up a front on making everyone think there is no way we would be interested in trading for him and then actually doing so. See what you all think.

Re: Otis does not want Joe Smith
not surprising, why would we..it would be nice to find a better quality big or another pg
Otis Smith apparently is satisfied with the play of his big men — Howard, Lewis, PF Brian Cook , PF-C Tony Battie and C Marcin Gortat. "Did those rumors say what we are giving up for him? What am I going to do with another big? Am I just collecting them?" Smith said with a laugh.

Yeah right, Otis is just collecting big men, that's funny. Did he not watch the Piston's game? Its not the amount of them, but rather the quality that is the problem. We could have used Joe last night.

Re: Otis does not want Joe Smith
Joe Smith wouldn't have changed the outcome of that game last night. Its not like Smith would be in there at crunch time anyways, and many of the Pistons O-Rebounds were due to hustle, not size/toughness.
Smith isn't a game changer, he's a solid player that does his part. I would like to have him on this team, but its not something I'm going to worry about it. We have other needs to address that are more important (i.e. backup PG).

Re: Otis does not want Joe Smith
agreed we will have him because we dont really need him that bad, a back up pg is most dire need, especially with the solid play of batie and gortat, although I would like shawn williams from nj or the birdman

Re: Otis does not want Joe Smith
I like Smith, but "at this time" I don't think he'd be of much help.
He's a "tweener" with a nice offensive game.
He's not a great rebounder, shot blocker, nor defender.
As an insurance policy, yeah, sure.....but not really otherwise.
