Wiretap: Magic Can Reach Finals With Alston

Magic general manager Otis Smith believes that the team can advance all the way to the NBA Finals with Rafer Alston as their point guard.

"I think so," Smith said when asked if Alston could carry his team all the way to the plateau, "because what he does is battle every night. He doesn't allow guys to take a step back. He's 32 years old and his goal is to win a title, too. And we feel like we just gave him a chance to do that."

Smith traded for Alston just minutes before the league's deadline on Feb. 19 after losing All-Star Jameer Nelson to a shoulder injury.

If someone is gonna go out on a limb and say that their team can make it to the finals, they might as well say they think the team can win the championship. What's gonna happen? They'll reach the finals and then lose? Especially since you're talking about an Eastern Conference team that will have to go through Boston/Cleveland, if you think they'll make it to the finals just go ahead and say they'll win it all.

Ya I know right it is not like we would be a fluke team getting to the finals like Lebron did when he went we would have to go through a couple of good teams to get to the finals.

All-Star Jameer Nelson

I still love reading that line every time. He might not've played, but he was an All-Star. I supported Jameer all the way and believed he could be our floor general for a very long time, but never thought he'd actually become an All-Star.

I do like Alston a lot too. He can be very inconsistent, but like Otis said; he's 32 years old and wants to win a championship. I think he still wants to be recognized as a key NBA player too, and the good thing with our team is that he doesn't need to take all kinds of iffy risks to prove himself, he's got the job, all he needs to do is prove his worth. I like his play so far, hope he can keep on growing with the team and indeed carry it to the finals. :pray:

Nothing special. Just glad to be in Orlando.... How his name started.... Talked about playing for both Van Gundys.... The Shaq and Stan feud....... I wish they would have asked him about next season, and his willingness of coming off the bench.......

Boston yes..The Cavs don't scare me. I think Cleveland will have a hard time beating Orlando in a 7 game series. I have a bigger fear of Detroit than Cleveland.
