Philly Extra motivated

Post#1 » by the matador » Tue Apr 28, 2009 12:56 pm

So I'm listening to the morning show here in philly on 610wip. Apparently Hedo during his press game conference revealed the plan for the last shot of the game. He basically said that who ever Thad Young was covering that's who would take the shot. I don't know if him saying this was a smart thing. When was the last time you heard of a team that believes their opponent has a glaring weakness that they are going to exploit come out and say it during a series. This is only going to light a fire up Thad's ass and make him play even harder and this might have pissed off the entire team. Not saying im scared of the Sixers i believe we will win this series in 7 but this can not be good strategy.

From YOUR board.

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=900958

On WIP Sixers beat writer Tom Moore called in. He said said that when he was at the game he found out that Van Gundy told his players and ran plays specifically to go after Thad. He said the last play was designed specifically to get the ball to the player Thad was guarding. It wasn't specifically designed for Hedo.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

^^^You sure you're not my alter ego?

Good, supposed Philly 'Wanted It More' than us in the other games.

Hopefully they'll overadjust with Thad now so that we can expose something else.

Not per say, diehard Eagles, Phils, and Flyers fan. Family immigrated to Philly in 1970, picked it up.

Maybe Thad will have a :( face tonight.

But if he has a  face then we might be screwed. Unless the 'extra motivation' causes him to get into foul trouble, and then Hedo will just be like

And then we can all make out :cuddle

wait what

Philly sucks, we'll make the Denver/New Orleans game look like mercy tonight.

If J.J. Redick was on the court and they had the ball, wouldnt they say whoever Redik defended would get the ball? Happens all the time. They have heard the same thing in their huddle.
My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

Well, let's see, they had Iguodala and Young defending our forwards (Green and Andre Miller at guards).

Seeing as we've gone to either Lewis or Turkoglu in clutch situations ever since Nelson went out, their coaching staff should've known that and if they didn't want the ball in Turkoglu's hands, they should've told their guys in the huddle not to switch (Iguodala was on Turk initially on that play). That's just good coaching.

I mean, it's not exactly breaking news that Iguodala is a better defender than Young (who's a really talented offensive player, BTW... I'm impressed).

"Extra" motivated? Well I certainly wouldn't expect them to play worse. I dont exactly understand all this "extra" motivated stuff in the playoffs sometimes. Why weren't they this motivated in game 1? I understand sometimes its growing pains....but its also to the point of sillyness sometimes.

I responded in the thread on the Philly board, I haven't heard Hedo say that the play was designed to attack young, but he could have said it.

This is what I wrote in that post:
This is interesting because what Mr. Moore is saying directly contradicts what SVG said in his post game interview. He was directly asked if he knew th 76er's would switch and he said he didn't know. Now, he could be telling a different story to keep his strategy under wraps, but generally, he's a pretty blunt, honest guy.

Hedo did say it in the postgame. And it doesn't matter if they would've switched or not, SVG perhaps really didn't know that. Point was that either Lewis or Turk attack Young... If they didn't switch, Turk would've passed it back to Lewis after the pick.
